FICC Technology – Commodities Analyst Developer recruitment

Goldman Sachs has been the leader in commodities trading for a number of years. We trade a wide range of products (from Energy and Metals, through to Agriculture and Emissions) and instruments (we trade both physical and financials, listed and OTC). In that respect, we are one of the most diverse Goldman Sachs trading desks. With the recent focus on increasing GS’s participation in the physical business and electronic trading and expanding our strong traditional businesses, there is an ever growing demand for technology enhancements to support our business.

The Commodities Trading and Sales technology is organised to support the global nature of GS’s commodities business with the team spread over four main trading locations: New York, London, Singapore and Tokyo. We also have presence in Calgary and Seoul as well as covering emerging initiatives in Sydney, Sao Paolo and other locations to support new business acquisitions and niche trading activities.

Commodities Trading and Sales Technology works closely with strategists utilising our proprietary platform (Slang and SecDB) as well as uses C#, Java and relational DBs.  This is a perfect opportunity for the right-minded individual to learn the Commodities business in deep detail, interact directly with our revenue producing users and explore new opportunities as a business application developer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities for this role are:
• Work closely with the business and strategists on different tactical and strategic initiatives
• Manage full lifecycle of application development from early requirements definition through to design, implementation, testing and support
• Liaise with other technical teams to build and test downstream flows and external connections
• Use the firm’s proprietary platform SecDb along with occasional involvement in Java and C# build
• Participate and contribute in design sessions within and outside the sub-team
• Produce robust, maintainable and well documented software
• Assist the Frontline team in implementing strategic solutions for supporting the business

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with Traders, Operations, Controllers and Strategists and learn about the commodities business in Goldman Sachs. The candidate will also be able to contribute to and influence the technical architecture for the Commodities business. Over time the candidate will build a deep understanding of the business and experience in a diverse array of technologies. The team has further career growth opportunities to assume technical and team leadership positions. RESPONSIBILITIES

• A minimum of 4 years experience
• Programming experience in object oriented languages such as Java, C++ etc.
• Strong design, analytical and problem-solving skills is a must
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be a self-starter and quick learner, able to remain calm and organised in high pressure environments.
• Self-motivated, creative and diligent
• Knowledge of Linux operating systems is preferred
• Previous experience in working with relational DBs and n-tier architecture is preferred
• Previous experience with business facing role is a plus.
