DIVISION OVERVIEW
Global Currency Emerging Markets: FX (GCEM FX) provides all the FX needs of the bank.  It is a fully integrated global 24 hour sales trading business in developed emerging markets Spot, Options Forwards and Short Term Interest Rate Trading. The  business is significant in size in terms of people, financials, geographic coverage and products traded.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The COO team supports GFX in the management, control development of the business. It is a global team with members in London, Zurich, New York Singapore.  This role is based in London.  The GCEM business management team aims to be proactive and add value and so actively seeks out ways to develop and grow all aspects of the businesses (both internal and external) that it supports.

The Global GCEM FX COO team currently comprises 11 business managers plus 4 admin support staff - with a significant amount of experience and expertise in a number of areas including PC, Trading, Operations Project Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Given the significant nature of the business supported by the team the responsibilities are diverse but in summary can be described as working with the business heads, management team, support departments and external parties to ensure the business is run optimally, has a clear strategy and executes in a controlled way.

Examples of tasks:
• Forecasting and business planning – revenues, costs and balance sheet/capital. A particular
  focus at present is driving cost saving initiatives to improve the efficiency of the business.
• Business reporting for senior FO management – daily, weekly and monthly.
• Presentation writing for diverse audiences from senior FO mgt to key support departments.
• Acting as a representative for the business with other COOs and support departments (IT, PC,
  Ops).
• Projects:  Support the Global COO the Regional COO with ad hoc projects queries.
  Specific projects could include:
     o Technology and infrastructure
     o Risk management
     o Valuations, PL, Balance sheet and capital management and optimisation 
     o New business and strategic projects
     o External and regulatory liaison
• Production: Support the sales trading organisation both on a day-to-day as well as a
  strategic basis. This includes trouble shooting of day-to-day operational issues.
• Controls: ensure controls are effective and encourage a best of breed approach, involvement
  in control process such as Business Partnership Meeting (BPM): the creation, the operation
  and the continual improvement. Involvement in senior management supervisory review  
  process.

The ability to thrive in a control focused fast paced pressurised environment and:
• Conduct rigorous analysis and produce high quality, insightful content.
• Work collaboratively with internal businesses, support functions and external consultants.
• Provide bespoke research, performance analytics, and competitive intelligence.
• Manage a large workload, accurately and efficiently, multi-tasking to prioritise in order to meet
  challenging deadlines.
• Work both as part of an international team but also independently as required.
• Have strong communication and presentation skills.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail with the ability to effectively self-check.

Although overseas travel is not a core part of the role the increased scope of the team means that this could be a possibility as dictated by project and other needs.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- Strong educational background ideally degree in a financial, quantitative
- Qualifications in mathematical or quantitative subject of A/B grade at A-Level
- Excellent communicator able to liaise with all levels – Junior to very senior – and explains
  potentially complex ideas and issues.
- Proactive and able to learn quickly and independently.
- Able to multi task utilising strong prioritisation skills.
- Must be organised.
- Demonstrated strong career progression so far with a track record of achievement.
- Experience in working with large and complex processes.
- Experience in a control based function or role.
- Commercial awareness and aptitude for making smart business decisions.
- Familiarity with a trading business, its set up and operations.
- Excellent spreadsheet  and PowerPoint skills.
- Exposure to derivatives and financial securities with understanding of product types, trading
   process and related modelling, risk or operational considerations.
- Strong presentational skills.

Desirable:
- Experience leading teams – although no direct reports in role leadership and influencing
  skills important to get things done by other team members and /or people outside the team.
- This role would be well suited to someone with a Product Control or Financial background.
- Experience in the OTC market (ideally).
- Exposure to CS analytics used in valuation of financial products.
- Project management experience.
- Exposure to technology – trading and risk management systems – or similar .
- Experience with Interest Rate trading and markets. Exposure to other asset classes useful.
