Field Biologist - Santa Maria, CA

Job Description AECOM is seeking a project-level Terrestrial Wildlife Biologist for our Santa Maria CA, office. Job duties include general field surveys for biological resources, sensitive species surveys, wetlands permitting (CWA, CDFG Section 1600), preparation of biological reports, sensitive species permitting, preparation and implementation of mitigation and restoration plans, and preparation of biological resources sections of CEQA and NEPA. Existing clients include private companies and federal, state, and local government agencies. The position requires familiarity with the flora and fauna of Central Coast California. Successful candidate will exhibit knowledge and experience with identification and habitat assessment of primarily mammalian, amphibian, and reptilian species. Breadth and proficiency across different regions and ability to demonstrate survey experience across them will be evaluated. Recovery permits and/or designations of species proficiency a considered benefit. The ability and desire to perform extensive fieldwork on potentially difficult terrain and during adverse weather conditions on field assignments ranging from several days, weeks, or months at a time will be essential. Ability to hike up to 8 - 10 miles per day on a repeated basis is necessary. Good interpersonal skills, writing skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are fundamental. Attitude and demeanor compatible with collaborative team efforts, ability to professionally interact with clients clearly understanding project approach, and ability to understand expectations of assigned tasks are desired. Cross-experience with botanical proficiency and habitat designations a plus. Requirements include at a minimum a BS or BA in a biological or environmental field, plus 0-4 years of consulting experience or combination of agency/consulting experience. Applicable advanced degrees and/or USFWS/CDFG permits and MOUs may substitute for years of experience. Knowledge of Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo Counties will be essential with experience with San Joaquin Valley and desert species a considered benefit. Writing sample will be required.
