Chevron's Deepwater Exploration Projects Business Unit (DWEP) is accepting online applications for the position of Field Engineer. The Field Engineer is responsible for rig site drilling completion engineering design and cost estimation for DWEP wells during planning and execution. This position will work on a rotating schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off with occasional business trips to the Houston, Texas offices.

The drilling and completion activities being performed in Chevron's Deep Water Gulf of Mexico operations represent some of the most technically challenging well construction activities being undertaken within industry. Given this level of technical complexity and the operational requirements of the dynamically positioned dual activity drill ships being used in these activities necessitates a very high level of engineering activity, not only in the offsite planning but also the onsite engineering necessary to ensure engineering and execution excellence.

Position Details:
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Works within a team of Drilling Completion Engineers, Drill Site Managers and Drilling Superintendents to plan and execute drilling completion programs.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring to other less experienced Field Engineers.
  • Supports and ensures consistent use and application of engineering tools, programs, processes and standards as well as engineering designs and cost estimates with the Drilling Completion Engineering team assigned to the well.
  • Provides onsite engineering support to the Drill Site Managers during well execution with assistance from the other members of the DC Engineering Team and guidance from DC Engineering Advisors.
  • Tasked with the capture and entry of lessons learned to allow bi-weekly reviews, hole section reviews and aid in the End of Well Lookback. Utilizes the lessons learned database to review past lessons learned and ensure these are incorporated into current plans of actions (POA).
  • Assist the Drill Site Managers in organizing and leading rig site POA reviews and hole section previews with Service Partners and Rig Contractors, as required.
  • Work with the Drill Site Managers, other DC Engineers, and Service Partners (rig based and shore based) to coordinate timely arrival of equipment and services for upcoming operations.
  • Assist the Drill Site Managers to provide guidance and prioritization of equipment needs to Offshore Logistics Coordinator. Communicate upcoming equipment movements with Drill Site Managers and rig team.
  • Assist in directing rig team in derrick and deck management for current and upcoming operations.
  • Work with Dill Site Managers to ensure offline activities are optimized and estimated centerline savings are recorded and reported.
  • Ensure proper APD/APM and relevant regulatory documents are available at the rig site, maintain as built well schematic, ensure test pressures satisfy APD requirements and do not exceed mechanical limits, provide assistance as required to review test charts.
  • Perform general engineering calculations to support operations
  • Interact with other DC Engineers to complete Risk Assessments. Communicate Risk Assessment to Drill Site Managers, Service Partners, rig contractor and others to develop contingency plans for ongoing operations.
  • Be a visible leader on the rig by participating in BBS observations, SWA, think plans, etc. Spend time with various department heads (drilling, marine, decks, subsea) to have a good understanding of rig operations.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in drilling or completion engineering and drill site management in an offshore environment.
  • Candidate must be able to work effectively with office and rig based personnel, Chevron and/or contractor.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles and engineering software applications.
  • Experience in leading quality risk assessment conversations is a plus.
  • Candidate must be process and results oriented.
  • Possesses good organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • Candidate must be willing and able to work on a rotating schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off with occasional business trips to Houston, Texas.
