Specific Responsibilities:
- Represent Company in a positive, professional and enthusiastic manner.
- Review all appropriate orders as necessary to implement services and/or facilities required for network installations, additions, changes, disconnects, and reconfigurations. Ensure all components are properly connected through the necessary slotting, jumpers, cross-connects, etc. Provide accurate and timely documentation on all circuit records, equipment inventory, spares and assigned projects.
- Maintain and ensure the operation of the digital central office network.
- Perform customer and network order installation and maintenance.
- Comply with all local and corporate policies.
- Work all related trouble tickets to resolution.
- Surveillance and resolution of all network alarms.
- Work with vendors and customers in installation and trouble resolution.
- Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly PM’s.
- Maintain Central Office inventories and supplies.
- Enforce Central Office security.
- Supervise all Central/Collocation Office work including vendors and contractors.
- Work with the Engineering Department to install and turn up network equipment.
- Install and maintain various customer premises equipment (CPE) and VoIP IAD’s at customer premise.
- Install and maintain HDSL2 HDSL4-based T1’s to the customer premise.
- Test and trouble shoot DS0, DS1, DSL, DS3, and optical circuits (OC-3 to OC-48).
- Maintain switch and transport equipment by clearing major and critical alarms.
- Manage and maintain Central Office records and documents.
- Work with Routers, IP Switches, VoIP Gateway, Soft Switch, DACS, Optical Transport equipment, and DC distribution system.
- Required to be on-call evening and weekends and be accessible by phone 24x7.
- Review and close locate request tickets on a daily basis and respond to emergency/non-emergency locates to mark our fiber.
- Maintain site in a clean and professional condition and ensure timely maintenance of assigned company vehicle.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
Qualifications:
- The ability to work troubles to resolution in a timely manner in a maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of telecommunications with 2 years of technical training and/or 4 years related experience.
- Knowledge and ability to operate wide range of tools and test equipment; DS3, DS1, 2 4 wire loops HDSL using a T-BERD 224, T-BERD 305/310, TTC-950, T-BERD 2209/2109, Power Optical meter, AC/DC Multi-meter, DS3 Coax Cable kit, Wire gun, and 3M locator
- Must be extremely proficient in T-1 T-3 wiring to include DSX-1 and DSX-3 cross-connects. Also required is a basic understanding of power plants and powering up all network elements located in the Central Office.
- Knowledge of IP Routing desirable but not required.
- Knowledge of SONET, preferred experience with Fujitsu. Cisco 15454 Lucent optical systems.
- PC/computer proficiency.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Efficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently as well as contribute to team.
