The Transportation Systems Division offers AC propulsion systems for railroad commuter cars and locomotives including traction motors, VVVF Inverters, controls, and other electrical devices. Our corporate headquarters is located in Warrendale, PA. The Field Service Engineering opportunity is located in our New Haven CT facility.
As part of our expanding Transportation Systems Division you will have an opportunity to serve as the Company’s lead field technical representative. Creating and providing training. Reporting issues to internal and external customers and provide technical support to all field operations. In addition you will:
- Meet regularly with representatives of the railroad and car builder; conduct technical negotiations and provide technical support to the railroad and car builder
- Troubleshoot and perform repairs on control systems, communication systems, and networks, including RS-232, RS-485, and Ethernet.
- Create training materials and provide training to field service and repair shop personnel.
- Review customer training material and provide customer training.
- Review technical field documentation provided by MELCO for native language and technical accuracy.
- Support MELCO Engineering in testing and test data analysis, including on-car testing and test reporting.
This career opportunity requires:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or other related technical area, Plus a minimum of seven years’ experience in rail transit industry, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of control systems, communications systems and networks for rail cars.
- Developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of AC, DC, Analog and Digital signals and their measurements. Ability to work at the customer’s site, sometimes on short notice (e.g., must be able to meet with customer’s representatives within hours of being notified)
- Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings and to safely and properly use inspection and test tools and equipment
- Ability to work in, on top of, and under a rail car; ability to work in a rail yard with uneven terrain; ability to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel domestic and international to field sites and Japan (25-30%).
