Providing strategic advice and assistance to the Secretary for Finance and Minister for Finance on the a wide range of issues relating to Nauru’s public finances and its investment in State Owned Enterprises is a key focus of this challenging and rewarding role. You will provide advice and support developing and implementing strategies designed to improve departmental operations and outcomes and build the capacity of local staff to effectively manage Nauru’s public money. Advise and support the Secretary in coordination, development, implementation and monitoring of the Department’s Annual Operational Plan and Sector Strategic Plan, as well as statutory reporting.

- Your extensive experience in senior executive roles in Government Treasury or Finance Departments.
- Your experience in providing strategic advice to government ministers concerning financial and economic issues.
- Your well developed organisational and staff leadership skills, and ability to effectively work with stakeholders to promote organisational outcomes and represent the Minister and Government of Nauru.
- Your expertise in transferring skills, with a demonstrated commitment to mentoring and understanding of the issues around capacity building and sustainability in resource-challenged developing countries
- Evidence of your extensive experience in public financial management including accounting systems, the preparation of government budgets, controlling government finances and financial reporting
- Your reputation for achievement due to your sound judgement, highly developed analytical, negotiation, communication, stake-holder management and cross-cultural skills
- Your post graduate tertiary qualifications in economics, accounting , finance or related discipline
This position is part of the Pacific Technical Assistance Mechanism (PACTAM), which places highly-skilled deployees in the Pacific to assist local employers to meet their human resource needs and contribute to building capacity in the workplace. The allowances package includes AUD$155,000 p.a., plus housing, vehicle, relocation assistance, airfares and insurance.
