Finance and Risk Manager recruitment
This role is responsible for providing accurate and timely reporting of all accounting and risk positions as they arise within Gavilon’s biodiesel business. This role will develop appropriate reporting and risk management procedures, advise senior management/commercial teams and validate pricing procedures for all physical and financial transactions that originate out of the Calgary office. The role reports to the Controller, Renewables with dotted line reporting to the Market Risk Manager. At the outset of this new position, approximately 2/3 of the successful candidates time will be spent on accounting and control issues, and 1/3 of his/her time on risk management.
Job Responsibilities:
• Support Gavilon Energy in the continued build-out of the company’s accounting, control and risk management processes
• Ensure timely and accurate daily P/(L), positions and risk reporting processes are in place and in accordance with Company policy guidelines
• Manage daily price update and validation processes
• Provide guidance to front, middle and back office personnel for complex or non-standard biodiesel transactions
• Escalate issues in a timely fashion to management that involves any situation impacting the reporting accuracy of the biodiesel trade book and/or its risk profile
• Establish and maintain a positive and effective relationship with key business stakeholders to create a strong business partnership
• Provide excellent customer service by fostering positive relationships and strong follow-up with customer issues, both internal and external
• Create and maintain a team environment for all supported businesses
• Provide ad hoc and special reporting requests as needed, to the business managers, and corresponding management team, to effectively analyze the results of business operations
• Work proactively to ensure all company policies are adhered to for contract, risk, credit, and overall control framework
• Learn and effectively utilize all applicable operational systems
Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:
• A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics
• MBA, CPA and/or CFA preferred
• 5-8 years of related work experience, with 3-5 years in energy trading preferred
• Thorough understanding of derivative instruments and commodity/financial markets
• Strong analytical skills and detail orientation
• Ability to effectively work as part of a fast-paced and highly motivated team
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal
• Sense of urgency and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong proficiency in commodity systems, Excel and other Microsoft applications
