Product Control is one of the largest departments within Controllers and Special Situation Group(SSG) Product Control team supports Japan SSG, Japan Merchant Banking Division(MBD) as well as some part of Japan Investment Banking Division(IBD and Goldman Sachs Asset Management(GSAM).

Its main responsibilities are to produce and analyze investment activities, to report the desks’ profits and losses and to verify the values of positions held by the desks, both cash and derivative, especially focusing on Real Estates, Non Performing Loan, Private Equity and Single Credit investments.  This role requires extensive liaison with the desks, Risk Management Group, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Tax as well as with colleagues in Controllers. Product Controllers are expected to develop a good understanding of the products they monitor and of the strategies used by the desks to generate revenue for Goldman Sachs. The function has become increasingly technical in content and offers a challenging and interesting role, which would suit dynamic, bright and ambitious individuals with a drive to succeed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Intelligently monitor the investment activity; highlight and report unusual activity.

-To be fully informed of all developments and issues in their investment areas.

-Identify any investments booked incorrectly in the firm’s trade processing systems.

-Interact with deal team members and their management.

-Liaise with Operations, Compliance, Legal and Tax in problem solving capacity.

-Assess risk inherent in the desks’ investments, whether market, compliance or reputational risk etc.

-Prepare daily PL’s for the desks, involving pricing reviews to ensure reasonable valuation of inventory, and substantial use of the firm’s accounting systems.

-Perform independent price verification on inventories.

-Month-end procedures preparing accounts for posting to the firm’s general ledger and preparing disclosers relating to the desk’s inventories for the firm’s regulatory reporting.

Basic Qualigication

-Japanese language required

-Knowledge of financial products and market awareness.

-Strong communication skill

-Team player

-Strong character and control mindset, able to work under pressure

-Self confidence to interact with demanding internal clients

-Excellent PC skills (particularly Excel) and highly numerate

-Willing to take on extra responsibilities

Preferred Qualification

Qualified accountant preferred
