FINANCE MANAGER GERMAN MARKETS
Our client is a very large and well known US multinational. It’s a global retail brand with over 17.000 stores worldwide. Their EMEA Head Office is based in the Amsterdam Region. The company has partly centralized their finance function on this location. For our client we are now looking for a Finance Manager who will look after the german market. This role will also be based at the EMEA Head Office and will report into the Director Accounting EMEA.
As Finance Manager German markets you contribute to the companies’ success by reviewing and analyzing local accounting information so that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the German business. You will be part of the EMEA shared services accounting team in Amsterdam while remotely supporting the German GmbH, located in Munich, Germany.
For this role regular monthly travelling to Germany is required.
Your key responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and timely presentation of financial results. Meet with departments to review statements, respond to questions, and identify areas requiring additional research or action
- Apply Accounting policies and procedures in particular area of responsibility to reflect current company direction and in compliance with US GAAP;
- Provide timely responses to corrections, adjustments and outstanding items;
- Identify and communicate risk areas and emerging trends with business unit and department management. Develop responses and take action as appropriate;
- Oversee the period-end close process, communicating results and variances to controller, finance leadership and SCI Accounting to facilitate consolidation and understanding of results;
- Oversee the preparation of local compliance reporting such as VAT filings, turnover audit etc;
-Own the preparation of the local statutory financial reports;
-Participate in implementation of systems directly utilized by Accounting, including defining system requirements, testing and training. Identify and implement process or procedural modifications indicated by systems requirements.
Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
- Plan and manage business unit and department processes and practice to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives;
- Make recommendations to improve internal controls and develop accounting policies and procedures in support of changing business activities;
- Prepare, communicate and educate business groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Partner Development Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
- Challenge and inspire partners to achieve business results;
- Conduct and ensure the completion of performance reviews;
- Develop teams and partnerships aligned with Corporate guidelines;
- Manage staff, including assigning priorities to workload, identifying long-term professional development and advocating needs of the group;
- Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The qualified Finance Manager we’re looking for has a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with application of US GAAP to complex business transactions – preferably having worked in a German (retail) business environment.
Must haves:
- Relevant Bachelor / Master degree in Business Economics, preferably added with post graduate accounting degree ( RA/ ACCA/CPA);
- Native/Fluent German speaker and fluent in English
- Experienced in developing, interpreting and implementing accounting policies and processes in a growth environment;
- Ability to build relationships;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to local and remote business partners and management;
- Experience with Oracle EBS or comparable systems;
- Strong problem-solving skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects;
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Nice to haves:
- Retail or consumer products specific accounting experience (i.e. Lease accounting, revenue recognition);
- Ability to develop innovative solutions and process improvements based on technical accounting knowledge, analytical skills, and understanding of financial systems;
- Experience with systems development and implementation.
