The University of Sydney is Australia’s first University. It has an annual turnover of $1.6 billion and $1 billion of endowment funds under management. The University’s Strategic Plan 2011-2015 includes a $900 million capital expenditure program that will significantly transform University facilities over the next three years.
As part of this exciting period of growth, we are currently seeking two Finance Managers to join our Finance unit.
In this position, you will:
- provide effective, efficient and integrated day to day operational financial management and accounting services advice to assigned portfolios
- work with other key financial services staff as required to develop, implement and track budgets aligned to the University Economic Model
- prepare and submit quality, timely and accurate management reports of Actuals, Budgets and Forecasts with associated supporting analysis, work-papers, schedules and explanations of major movements and variances
- work collaboratively and proactively with other financial services staff to monitor and manage procurement, payments, debtors and ensure grant and other income is received on a timely basis
- manage a small team of professional staff to deliver effective services, contributing to a supporting transformation programs at the University.
To succeed in this role you will demonstrate:
- relevant qualifications and/or extensive financial management experience and hold Membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, or equivalent
- proven skills in, but not limited to, quality, timely, and accurate budgeting, forecasting, management accounting and reporting, profit and loss variance analysis, general ledger reconciliations, journals, procurement, debtors management, etc
- ability to interpret, apply and integrate complex financial policies and procedures, external requirements and accounting standards
- experience in financial management and reporting (Plan, Budget, Actual, Forecast etc) in a large, complex and diverse organisation
- extensive experience in analysing and interpreting financial data and building business case rationales.
One of these positions will support the Sydney Medical School and the second position will support our Corporate Service team.

Remuneration package: $103,518 - $116,745 p.a. (which includes a base salary of $87,474 - $98,651 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
