Finance Manager/Modeller – Major PFI/PPP Bidder
THE ROLE
Job Description
Work in a small team of professionals with an aim of bidding for PFI projects in the UK market. Working alongside internal bid teams, funders, financial advisors and senior management to ensure every aspect of the bid is managed carefully to ensure a bid can be submitted in the timescales and the business is successful in growing its PFI Portfolio.
• 60% - Modelling – this is primarily a financial modelling role. The individual for this role should be comfortable on developing and creating a financial model from scratch used typically in PFI projects and also to extrapolate data from models created by our advisors.
• The person will act as the interface between the cost modellers and Waste Flow Modellers within the business and external modelling teams. This individual will have to sit alongside the bid team through competitive dialogue and interface with the Authority teams to ensure that the business win the bid.
• In addition will responsible for all tax and accounting analysis with direction given by Group Tax and Accounting and will also manage the model audit process.
• Modelling support will extend to providing support to the investment team to update financial models for actual data and changes - understanding banking and finance and being able to converse with banks from a knowledge base of a few years experience.
• Whilst the individual may not fully have experienced every aspect of how to manage funders they should be comfortable to work effectively as a finance lead in managing a banking group along with the financial advisor and senior Ventures person to ensure the PFI bid submitted is robust and deliverable.
• Bid submission – this individual should be presentable and provide solid written submissions as part of the competitive dialogue process. They will attend dialogue meetings with funders, advisors, bid team and the client. The submission is normally completed in tight timescales and with long hours of work which this individual should find rewarding.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the financial modelling process to ensure a robust and accurate models is created
- Manage the competitive dialogue process related to the financial solution and provide the written submission on time, accurate and of a good quality
- Work with funders to ensure that they regard the business as a professional bidder
- Produce papers for internal meetings and approvals and external communications/ presentations
- Support bid team with financial analysis as required during commercial negotiations
- Provide the business with ad hoc analysis of the various bids/closed projects
THE CANDIDATE
- Financial Modelling Excellent Microsoft skills especially around development of macros and excel
- Understand PFI/ PPP and the procurement process
- Commercial awareness
- Numeracy
- Good knowledge of accounting and taxation
- Good organisational skills - need to manage working on more than one project at once and often to strict deadlines
- Location - mainly London based with travel and overnight stays for short periods
- Working hours - can be unpredictable and occasionally may be required to work some very long days
- Professional Qualification in related field are desirable
