The Financial Analyst I assists the Financial Reporting Manager (“FRM”) in all areas of transactional and detailed analysis with regard to the Company’s monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement preparation.  This includes technical accounting research, utilization tracking, balance sheet reconciliation, budget variance reviews and various other reports designed to assist the Company’s Senior Management in short-term and strategic decision making.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  1. Computes monthly IBNR (claims “incurred but not reported”) liabilities at both the IPA (individual practitioner association) and Company levels of detail;
  2. Computes monthly risk pool assets and liabilities and prepares related financial statement footnote disclosures;
  3. Prepares quarterly profit and loss statements by IPA for Senior Management;
  4. Prepares monthly goal tracking report for Senior Management;
  5. Prepares monthly analyses on benefits utilization (e.g. – ambulatory encounters, dental and vision benefits, etc…);
  6. Maintains and oversees the Company’s Plan-to-Plan (“P2P”) reconciliation program;
  7. Consolidates results from various business units across the Company for the monthly “Financial Dashboard”;
  8. Validates monthly member benefit invoices from the Company’s vision care provider(s);
  9. Prepares and researches technical accounting matters as assigned by the FRM and CFO – specifically on fair value measurements, variable interest entities, risk pool assets, etc…;
  10. Provides analytical and data retrieval support for preparation of the Company’s annual bid process / CMS;
  11. Maintains monthly financial reporting packages (pivot tables, variance reviews);
  12. Assists FRM in following up on departmental budget variances;
  13. Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and seeks ways to automate their associated processes;
  14. Assists in consolidating and formulating departmental budget templates;
  15. Prepares quarterly and annual analyses on claims timeliness / inventories for regulatory filings; 
  16. Updates and maintains monthly balance sheet account analyses / roll-forwards; and
  17. Special Projects as assigned by the Financial Reporting Manager and CFO.

  1. Bachelor's degree in a financial discipline or equivalent work experience;
  2. Advanced knowledge of Excel and Access;
  3. Understanding of and appreciation for the healthcare industry;
  4. Knowledge of GP Dynamics is a plus;
  5. 3 years of relevant healthcare industry and / or finance accounting experience;
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  7. An ability to articulate financial transactions in writing; and
  8. A passion to expand one’s personal base of financial knowledge.
