Supervise the day-to-day activities assigned to the financial staff, including the administration of assignments. This role will effectively lead small teams, investigate problem areas and manage the facilitation / implementation of solutions. As well, this position will manage the regional plants production activities and plant costs accounting to ensure compliance, simplification and optimization of processes. Lead the staff through process and /or system changes with strong leadership and enthusiasm. Leverage systems and process to accomplish goals and drive results. This position will communicate frequently with personnel at all levels with the Mills organization from plant to head quarters. Areas of responsibility include the budget, month end accounting, accounts payable, shipping wire, packing, milling, grain unloading, and monitoring of the Stock Position Report as well as a fundamental understanding of critical processing in the areas of payroll, purchase orders, invoices, benefits coordination, and other personnel functions. It requires extensive knowledge of many PC based and web based applications, as well as a strong understanding of the flour milling business
Areas of responsibility may include: Finance, Accounting, Internal Audit, Treasury, MA, Investor Relations, Risk Mgmt, Insurance Loss, Tax, Credit, Trade, Pricing, Freight or Financial Systems

Position Responsibilities

  • Co-pilot and partner to understand and complete requests from Operating Groups, Plants, Supply Chain and Corporate Accounting, Internal and External auditors in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in period-end close activities to ensure timely completion of tasks
  • Supervise and train staff by providing the necessary guidance to properly develop their accounting skills and business knowledge.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of processes and procedures and help develop improvements as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of corporate initiatives and maintain sound financial policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively work in a team environment both within and outside of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Functional involvement in change management is frequent and eminent.
  • Ability to identify and promptly communicate situations that may materially affect the company’s overall financial condition.
  • Assist in maintaining controls over accounting transactions to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger including documentation of Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
  • Contribute to and support a Team environment. Provide leadership in order to achieve department goals; foster a positive work environment that encourages open communications, mutual respect and the exchange of ideas.
  • Responsible for performance and productivity related documentation for direct reports; provide formal and informal performance feedback. Participate in new staff interviews and subsequent hiring decisions.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently while ensuring efficient, quality daily operations.
  • Support Human Resources functions at plant level. Examples include benefit coordination, new hire contingencies, new hire on boarding, record keeping and maintenance of personnel files.

    Position Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in accounting required. CPA, CMA certification and/or advanced degree preferred
  • 4-6 years of experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing, etc.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership and planning skills
  • Exposure to SAP and BI applications preferred
  • Ability to analyze and assimilate relevant data into key financial recommendations and decisions
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly; demonstrate flexibility when presented with change
  • Fundamental understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
