Disability Income Claims

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform detailed analysis of tax returns, including individual, schedule C, partnerships and corporate tax returns along with all schedules and attachments.

• Interface with claim examiners to assist in the analysis of the financial aspect of disability income claims adjudication including; determination of pre-disability earned income, analysis of monthly profit and loss statements for loss of income calculations, review of qualified overhead business expenses and reconciliation of reported earned income to tax returns.

• Assist examiners in financial discussions or directly conduct calls with an insured, accountants, attorneys, agents, etc.

• Conduct regular training classes that are driven by needs identified by QA and department trends for both new and experienced examiners.

• Develop/enhance training programs that directly address needs throughout the department.

• Lead and participate in projects that develop new financial guidelines and new/modified disability income products and marketing material.

• Provide deposition and trial appearances, as need, on litigated cases.

• Maintain and report on monthly results: KPIs, referral volumes, trend analysis, training needs, etc.

• Develop and implement financial procedures/processes when necessary.

• Work on special projects of both tactical and strategic nature.

• Communicate to and develop effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

 

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience. CPA and experience within DI claim industry strongly preferred. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements or individual and small business tax returns. Tax preparation skills. Excellent written and verbal skills. Superb communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-accountants groups. Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word).
