Main Function
Our Finance Division is comprised of the following groups: Financial Control, Product Control, Financial Decision Support, and Tax. All areas allow you to build a thorough understanding of our business and enable you to add value in the reporting and analysis of financial information. Finance is an exciting area as the division supports a variety of products in a constantly changing marketplace.
Financial Control oversees the financial records and reporting of our business activity. Providing accurate information, they enable us to react to opportunities and focus on critical business issues. Financial Control also provides information to senior management, as well as external fiscal parties.
Product Control provides explanations of business revenues, attributing any movements to market positions, inherent risk and new deals. The team is also responsible for ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet for revenue products. Product Control is pivotal to our reporting and control infrastructure and the information provided by the group gives us the means to assess business performance. In addition, the group coordinates all global finance controls and procedures. Financial Decision Support bolsters Barclays Capital's growth by enabling and supporting all financial decisions within the firm, through timely provision of quality data and partnership with key strategic decision makers.
Financial Decision Support is primarily responsible for enabling and supporting all financial decisions within the firm, through timely provision of quality data and partnership with key strategic decision makers. This covers revenues, costs, balance sheet/capital and client franchise performance. The function is also responsible for processing the firm''s invoices and expenses, leading the annual budgeting process and interfacing with Group on financial performance.
Tax is responsible for managing tax risk in Barclays Capital and provides tax support to all our business areas.
The primary function of the Legal Entity Control/Financial Reporting group is to ensure the integrity of the Financial Statements of Barclays Capital Inc (BCI) - the US Broker Dealer for Barclays Capital. This includes management of the monthly close of the general ledger and to ensure that all procedures/processes have been completed for timely and accurate reporting of the financial statements locally and to head office. Liaise daily/month end with PCG, Regulatory Reporting, and various operational groups to discuss substantive issues that affect Financial Statement reporting. Communicate Balance Sheet Control requirements for any new system replacement/enhancement or for the support of any new products and participate in all testing/conversion activities.
Main Duties
- Responsible for the month end close of the Real Estate related entities.
- Responsible for the month-end balance sheet account reconciliation and sign off in Account Ownership system. Identification, escalation and resolution of issues associated with substantiation.
- Prepare financial statements under US GAAP IFRS; perform analytical reviews including variance analysis.
- Prepare quarter end and year end reporting schedules for the Financial Reporting group and Regulatory Reporting group. Work proactively in non quarter end periods to address problem areas from prior reporting periods.
- Proactively identify opportunities for efficiencies and control improvements within month end close and to work with manager and relevant teams to implement solutions.
- Liaise with Product Control Group, Operations, Regulatory Reporting on a daily/month end basis
- Liaise with auditors during their examination of the relevant business lines to supply relevant information and to address questions.
- Aid in the completion of key control deliverables for Finance. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Person Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- 2+ years financial services experience within financial control
- 2+ years applying solid technical and computer skills (GL, Excel, Business Objects)
- 2+ years fundamental financial product knowledge and background (preferably Fixed income, Equities)
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA/CFA preferred but not required
- Audit experience, especially within a Broker Dealer environment.
- Experience working with SAP, Bloomberg
- Numerate, able to work with spreadsheets and perform financial analysis
- Self-motivated and self-directed, and able to solve problems with a minimal amount of guidance
