The Division of Risk, Strategy, and Financial Innovation at the Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking Financial Economists (Research Associate) who will analyze a wide range of market related data. The Division of Risk, Strategy, and Financial Innovation (RSFI) was created in September 2009 to integrate financial economics and rigorous data analytics into the core mission of the SEC. The Division is involved across the entire range of SEC activities, including policy-making, rule-making, enforcement, and examination.

The Financial Economist (Research Associate) will:
- Research, analyze, assemble, and manage data and information for report preparation to support economic research assignments, studies, programs, and projects.
- Analyze and support economic issues and produce qualitative and quantitative analysis regarding those issues or matters.
- Participate and provide input in the operations, studies, and analyses being conducted by senior financial economists and supervisors.
- Work as a member of a team providing technical assistance and support to the assigned program area.
- Provide support for a range of issues related to the assigned area of responsibility to include activities such as conducting research, analyzing problems, developing recommendations for action, presenting information briefings, and working with the staff in the conduct of the functional program operations.
- Work with more experienced or senior staff in preparing reports, memorandums, and other documents relative to procedural policy or legal issues related to assigned program area.
- Provide assistance to senior staff drafting and analyzing industry actions and developments affecting SEC programs; provide technical support to senior staff on issues involved in and responses to requests; and prepare or review reports involving policy questions.

EXPERIENCE:
SK-11:Must have specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-09; apply knowledge of economics practices, methods, techniques, specialized terminology, processes, procedures, and methods; conduct economic research and obtain information for assignments through available tools such as automated databases, historical files, and review of previous office operations and cases.
SK-12:In addition to the experience required for the SK-11, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-11; apply knowledge of information assembly, analysis, and report preparation to support economic research assignments, studies, programs, and projects; programming experience in a statistical language; and experience using statistical programming languages to work with data.
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of information assembly and report preparation to support economic research assignments, studies, programs, and projects.
- Knowledge of and skill in applying current technologies, protocols, and best practices in statistical programming, including programming experience in a statistical programming language.
- Knowledge of financial and economic principles, standards, theories, practices, concepts, and techniques, and skill and ability to apply this knowledge in analyzing and supporting key policy issues.
- Ability to communicate to identify problems, recommends solutions, and conveys complex and technical information to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to collaborate with others to carry out economic studies, programs and projects.
- Skill and experience with electronic data sources.
EDUCATION:
Degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus; or a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in economics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
