Financial Institutions Analyst/Associate (Credit Risk Management)
Position Description
Within the broader risk management framework, the Credit Department is an independent risk oversight function and as such is charged with overseeing the credit risk profile of the transactions undertaken. The Credit Department conducts essential research in determining the risks arising from transactions with our lending and trading counterparties. Upon completion of a thorough evaluation, Credit Analysts assign counterparties a credit-specific rating to denote the level of risk taken by the firm. On this basis, Credit approves or rejects all material requests for loans or derivatives from our clients.
Credit professionals perform two core functions:
Research - Upon receiving requests from the Investment Banking Department to approve new loans and requests from Sales Trading Division to approve new transactions, Credit's researchers actively investigate, review and rate the credit quality of companies in a wide range of industries.
Risk Decisions - All primary lending and derivative transactions are approved by senior credit professionals. Those individuals establish and monitor the credit limits for each active counterparty and work closely with Morgan Stanley's trading desks and banking teams.
The Credit Department is organized in order to appropriately service the firm's business units. Specifically, within Credit, we have groups responsible for the Fixed Income Division (further broken down into Interest Rate Products, Foreign Exchange and Commodities), Institutional Equities Division and within the Investment Banking Division, the Loan product.
