Business Unit Overview:
Within FIG EMEA, we pride ourselves on creating, communicating, and delivering investment solutions for BlackRock’s European insurance clients.
The team has professionals with different backgrounds and expertise in the many functions that, combined, make this effort successful and sustainable. These include relationship management, markets, sales, strategy, regulatory, client service, and product development.
FIG EMEA operates as part of a global FIG effort which is responsible for managing relationships with the Firm’s insurance clients (with total AUM of $309 billion as at the end of March 2013). The global FIG team straddles the Institutional Client Business and the Portfolio Management Group and is supported by strategists in BlackRock’s Client Solutions Group, risk analytics experts in BlackRock’s Solutions business, as well as wider BlackRock business groups including the Risk Quantitative Analytics Group.
FIG EMEA offers European Insurance clients a narrow touch-point into our organisation such that clients can benefit from the scale of resource which BlackRock offers without compromising on the tailored and nimble experience which clients appreciate.
The expectations for the business are such that the team is heavily focussed on first class service delivery and further developing existing relationships. This new role provides an opportunity for an individual to become an integral member of a growing team, helping to shape the future direction of the business.
Position Summary:
The main objective of this role is to take a leading role in FIG’s client coverage and service effort, which is of significant focus for the FIG team globally.
As part of its service offering, FIG EMEA is focussed on the continual development of investment solutions for the existing client base, particularly against a backdrop of regulatory change and low investment yields.
The role will be multi-functional, allowing the successful candidate to develop (i) a broad knowledge of the BlackRock business (ii) an understanding of the workings of the insurance industry (assets, liabilities and regulation) (iii) expertise in a broad range of asset classes from investment grade fixed income, through equities to alternatives (iv) cross border exposures as FIG expands its coverage throughout Europe.
Responsibilities:
- Work as a leading member of the team in providing a first class service to the FIG EMEA client base and pursuing business development opportunities with this client base
- Interface with clients on a regular basis, providing portfolio analysis, market views, and responding to ad hoc queries in a timely and professional manner
- Specific detailed portfolio analysis and market leading modelling work for insurance clients supporting their business and regulatory needs
- Utilise BlackRock internal systems and third-party databases to compile necessary market and portfolio information
- Provide analysis and information which supports the ongoing business development of FIG
- Support the targeted marketing of product on the basis of accurate and pertinent knowledge of product, client and competitor data
Skills and Qualifications:
- Passion for excellence, significant initiative and relentless attention to detail
- Fixed Income knowledge and/or background
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral
- Knowledge of office systems (Powerpoint, Excel, etc.) as well as financial systems (Bloomberg, BarclaysLive, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work within a dynamic, energized team
- Given the role profile, European language skills (particularly German, Italian or French) would be highly beneficial
