Financial Manager/Controller, Asset Management recruitment
Essential Functions
- Controller of Asset Management Business Unit
- Contribute and/or lead the effective development of key business processes and systems supporting financial management and risk control
- Responsible for leading efforts to develop processing, reporting, and control procedures for the business area and ensure accurate documentation; perform updates regularly
- Serve as SME for the financial oversight and management of the business group
- Provide Senior Management with insightful reporting and analysis to support the business
- Provides advice on initiatives across the business unit as well as other cross functional groups
- Analyze business unit financial performance for periodic early look forecasts and during financial close process
- Oversee, coordinate, and process monthly accounting related production activities
- Support planning and execution of quarterly and annual financial close
- Lead or assist Senior Management with special projects as needed
- Manage all financial aspects of the asset management business unit, supporting the President
- Senior role in 3rd party audits and others
- Develop, implement and maintain accounting, financial and operational internal control
- Lead or participate in the preparation of accurate and timely internal and external management reports, including GAAP financial statements, portfolio analysis and investor reporting
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements of the funds
- Responsible for interfacing with the Fund Operations Manager for monthly reporting and investor statements
- Organizing fund audits
- Provide leadership and mentor junior members of the Asset Management business unit
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the company
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Education: BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or Business, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master’s Degree in Accounting preferred. Preference given to candidates with CPA, CMA, CFA or comparable designation.
Experience:
- 10-15 years of accounting experience, specifically fund accounting in asset management.
- Public accounting experience a plus with some exposure to consulting
- Some management experience preferred but not required; will consider those with senior level individual contributor experience
- Knowledge of Investment Company or similar investment management accounting
- Excellent judgment and analytical skills – proven ability to communicate proactively, analyze issues, and reach well considered conclusions under tight time constraints
- Exposure to SEC reporting and Sarbanes Oxley desired
- Experience with various accounting software packages
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Strong business acumen above beyond the accounting function
- Expertise in fund accounting in Asset Management
- Strong internal control and process evaluation background; ability to act as a consultant pertaining to process improvement
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work effectively with, present to, and influence executive level management
- Ability to be hands-on, team-oriented and possess strong integrity and professionalism
- Ability to be a self-starter with a pro-active approach
- Ability to work in a matrix management environment
- Identify areas for improved automation for process improvements to increase efficiency
- Make recommendations and participate in implementation
- Flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment
