FINANCIAL PLANNING ACCOUNTANT JOB IN DERBY

This Financial Planning Accountant job is a new job, which will be responsible for the maintenance, and the on-going development, of an established Excel based financial model.

THE ROLE AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Financial Planning Accountant will report to the Finance Director, but will work closely with key members of the finance, legal and operational departments to ensure the model accurately reflects on-going business reality, the current and future debt structures and financing terms as well as correctly forecasting the tax cash flows. The role will require interaction with directors, its professional advisors and owners.

The role will be based in the company's headquarters in Derby, with occasional travel to London.

As a key member of the finance department the Financial Planning Accountant will be responsible for:
• Maintaining a financial model that accurately reflects the changing operational assumptions and monthly actual results from the business, including their impact on the financing and tax workings;
• Modelling and calculating key financial ratios and covenants;
• Reconciling and explaining changes in the outputs to key stakeholders;
• Performing sensitivity analysis as required;
• Managing the key risks associated with the forecast;
• Modelling ad-hoc requests from the owners or the directors to assess the impact of business opportunities;
• Supporting refinancing projects by modelling the impact of changes to the capital structure;
• Assisting in the assessment of changes to accounting standards and tax legislation;
• Supporting the business by developing and improving the capabilities of the forecast and its outputs to better meet key stakeholders' needs;
• In the longer term leading the transition from Excel to an integrated system based solution.

EXPERIENCE SOUGHT IN THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate would be a qualified accountant with some exposure to corporate finance and an interest in the detail – ideal for someone who’s looking to make their first move out of practice.

In depth knowledge of Excel and in particular financial modelling is vital and the candidate should have a good working knowledge of IFRS. Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate at different levels with financial and operational staff are essential.

In addition, candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential:
• An expert Excel user.
• Clear thinking and the ability to respond calmly and methodically under pressure.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to independently identify and resolve problems.
• Strong interpersonal skills: to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate financial results and concepts to people outside of the finance department.
• An understanding of different debt instruments and funding structures.

Desirable:
• experience of preparing monthly forecasts, with inputs from across a business;
• working within the constraints of financial covenants and complex debt facility agreements;
• a working knowledge of corporate tax and/ or VAT, particularly in the context of leasing;
• experience in dealing with, and accounting for, derivatives;
