Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
* Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

Position Summary

THE OPPORTUNITY:
* As a key member of the leading edge Emergency Services facility at the Horizon Oil Sands, the Fire Codes Inspector will organize, direct and administer all activities related to Fire, Safety as well as Fire Code and corporate engineering standard enforcement.
* Act as primary advisor in areas of fire code enforcement, fire investigations, fire prevention, fire engineering reviews, fire warden training and other emergency services activities

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
* Inspect buildings, structures, tanks, construction sites and various facilities to detect hazardous condition or violations of fire codes and appropriate standards
* Develop, coordinate and maintain programs to provide efficient and effective fire prevention
* Coordinate the inspection and maintenance of equipment, such as fire alarm and suppression systems
* Discuss, train and assist in the correction of deficiencies and unsafe conditions with plant representatives
* Prepare and distribute inspection and investigation reports and maintain building files
* Assist personnel with code interpretation and information
* Issue and develop permits and enforce all applicable codes
* Deliver fire prevention training to contractors and CNRL employees
* Review squad checks and drawings; assist in correcting any non-compliance issues
* Train and assist Fire Wardens, review, follow up and maintain their monthly reports

QUALIFICATIONS
* Typically 5+ years of related industry experience with NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector and 1021 Fire Officer Level 1
* Registered with the Alberta Safety Codes Council as Fire Inspector and Investigator (restricted level minimum)
* Familiarity with and understanding of:
   o Oil sands operations
   o Work camp fire safety
   o Industrial facility fire suppression systems
