JOB SUMMARY: Maintains, services, recharges, and performs annual checks of customer's fire extinguishers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examines returned cylinders for surface defects such as dents, cracks and burns and move cylinders to designated work area, with the use of a cylinder cart.
- Removes labels from cylinders and applies paint as needed.
- Depressurize cylinders, removes valves from cylinders using wrench or valve-removal equipment after ensuring it is safe. Maintains a system to ensure the valve is replaced on the cylinder it came from as well as screens/filters as appropriate.
- Works safely and meets the requirements of all safety procedures and rules as prescribed by State, Federal, and the Company.
- Handle incoming cylinders that are going to be processed through the cylinder retest process in either its entirety or any portion of.
- Ensure that cylinders going into the process meet Airgas requirements for ownership, and can safely go through the process without exposing any part of the process, equipment, or personnel to any risk.
- Handling cylinders manually, with the use of a approved cart, or with a forklift. Cylinders will be moved from points throughout the facility, and will require manual effort to move them on and off of pallets. Cylinders will be manually handled in and out of cradle units as required for assembly and disassembly. Packs will be assembled and disassembled utilizing multiple tools to include but not limit to; crane, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools.
- Filling various types of fire extinguishers.
- Maintaining customer communication for service and inspections. Providing customer guidance to determine their needs and providing cost estimates.
- Ability to expand on the business by soliciting new customers for this service.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports and record data in readable fashion. Ability to effectively present information and to respond to questions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None required but must be able to pass training based on 100% testing.

The associate is frequently required to talk, hear, taste and smell. The associate is occasionally required to walk, stoop, crouch and kneel. The associate must regularly lift up to 60 lbs and move more than 125 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hold steel stamps and strike them with a hammer with force necessary to permanently mark cylinders in the prescribed DOT format.
