NOTICE OF EXAMINATION
FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC CLASS I
THE CITY OF AVON, OHIO
PURPOSE: Public notice is hereby given by the Civil Service Commission of the City of Avon, Ohio, of an open-competitive examination to establish an eligibility list for original appointments to the position of full-time Firefighter/Paramedic in the Avon Fire Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Age: At least eighteen (18) yrs of age on date of appointment.
Education: High School graduate or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent. Valid State of Ohio Firefighter 2 certificate and valid State of Ohio EMT-P (Paramedic) certificate (copies must be attached).
License: Valid State of Ohio driver's license.
Residency: If appointed, within six months thereof employees are required to live in Lorain County or one of its adjoining counties, pursuant to Ordinance No. 127-07, and must continue to reside within said area during their term of employment.
EXAMINATION: Applicants are required to pay a twenty dollar ($20.00) test fee when applying for the written examination. A passing grade for the written examination is hereby set at seventy percent (70%). Upon consideration of employment, applicants will be required to present a current strength and agility certificate from Cuyahoga Community College, or equivalent, as well as results of a physical exam.
APPLICATIONS: Applications must be made on a regular application form provided by the Avon Civil Service Commission that may be obtained at Avon City Hall or from the City of Avon website at www.cityofavon.com . No other form will be accepted. Applications must be returned, with the test fee, to Avon City Hall, 36080 Chester Road, Avon, Ohio, no later than 4:00 P.M. local time on Monday, April 16, 2012.
TIME AND PLACE OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION: Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. local time at Avon High School, 37545 Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio. Admittance will not be allowed more than fifteen (15) minutes after the advertised starting time of the test. Applicants must present a valid Ohio driver's license to gain admission to the examination.
CREDITS: Veterans-A Military Service credit of five (5) points will be added to the passing grade if the applicant was in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, was on continuous active military duty for a minimum of eighteen (18) months and was honorably discharged. A copy of Form DD214 showing an Honorable Discharge must be attached to the application upon filing. Education-Ten (10) points will be added to the passing grade of candidates with an Associate's Degree in Fire Science (copy of certificate must be attached). Service Credits-Five (5) points will be awarded to the passing score of Avon's current part-time firefighter/paramedics who have completed at least one (1) year of part-time service with the Avon Fire Department; Five (5) points will be awarded to the passing scores of a licensed firefighter/paramedic showing written proof of at least three (3) years of full time service with another municipal fire department. NOTE: No more than twenty (20) additional points will be added to any passing score.
