Job Purpose
The Firewall Analyst is responsible for administration of Firewalls deployed across the IT estate and the execution of step change as requested as part of Project activity.
Main Activities
- Provide effective technical support for the Firewall function within Security and Network Management to enable effective service provision, firstly by managing the Firewall Peregrine queue.
- Perform maintenance tasks on the estate supported by the team, both reactive (fix faults) and proactive to prevent faults and deliver efficiency increases.
- Deliver service improvements for firewalls.
- Identify and deliver improvements to the day to day operation of the platform.
- Provide technical support (through the BAU role or otherwise) to firewall related matters.
- Escalate service-impacting issues to line managers.
- Operate within Group Technology governance for Incident, Change and Problem management.
- Keep abreast of technology and tools used to support the Firewalls platforms.
- Participate in the 24x7 on call support rota.
- Perform detailed analysis on highly complex problems on the Firewall platform
- Act as a mentor/coach for more junior colleagues
- Perform Proactive Maintenance of the Networked Environment
- Perform Tier 2/3 Troubleshooting in conjunction with the Global Network Operations Centre as appropriate
- Perform Project tasks as directed by the Project Team
- Input into the Incident/Problem Management Process following resolution of an Incident
- Produce all Service Level and Operational Status Reports as required by the Service Management Team
- Provide guidance and mentoring for the junior members of the team
- Ensure the Physical Security of the environment
- Perform all hands-on tasks associated with a Network Environment
- Up to 30% travel may be required
- Participation in the On-Call Support Rota
Qualifications
What we're looking for
- Experience in a technical Firewall and/or Network Security role.
- Experience of corporate High Availability Firewall solutions (design, build and implementation) on the Nokia range of IP devices running Checkpoint Firewall-1 software (versions NG NGX).
- Good knowledge of Firewall and Network Security infrastructure (Check Point on Nokia, Provider-1, Imperva WAF, MacAfee Intrushield)
- Ability to perform diagnostics on highly complicated Firewall and Network Security infrastructure related problems
- Planning and Implementation
- Strong understanding of the critical business services delivered from IT Operations
- Experience of design build and implementation of Cisco ASA Firewall range
- Extensive knowledge of supporting Firewall and Network Security with proven ability to perform diagnostics to a highly technical level.
- Experience providing detailed plans and managing the resolution of highly complex issues problems.
- Proven ability to plan and execute workload in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to produce quality deliverables in a high pressure environment
- Ability to work under pressure both within a team environment and as an individual.
- Formal Industry recognised accreditation (CCSA/CCSE level)
- ITIL Foundation
- A minimum of Bachelor's Degree or higher although relevant experience will be taken into consideration
