Flight Nurse, Pittsburgh Northwest

The flight nurse functions as a member of the critical care transport team and is responsible for the care of critically ill and injured patients transported by the STAT MedEvac System. The flight nurse is expected to execute independent judgment, in order to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols, when contact with a medical command physician is not possible. The flight nurse functions as part of a team and shared responsibility for the team's conduct. The flight nurse fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the STAT MedEvac Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned. These positions will not be available until August of 2012. Applicants to this position will cover the following bases: MedEvac 3 - Butler/Cranberry, MedEvac 7 - Meadville/Greenville, MedEvac 8 - Grove City and MedEvac 14 - Youngstown/North Lima. Responsibilities - The flight nurse functions as a professional representative of the STAT MedEvac system and shall support and uphold the mission, goals, and the objective at all times - The flight nurse is responsible for rendering advanced life support care to critically ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care - The flight nurse is responsible for thorough knowledge of the STAT MedEvac policies and procedures and shall assist in meeting operational goals and objectives Basic Qualifications - Three year minimum critical care or emergency department experience - Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam - Weight/height restrictions of 210lbs maximum weight and 6'2" maximum height - Physical exam - Hearing evaluation - Reliable transportation to be able to travel to any STAT MedEvac base site as assigned is required - BSN is preferred - Experience in an air/ground transportation system is preferred - Certification in a related specialty area (i.e., CFRN, CCRN, CEN, etc.) is preferred - Pennsylvania registered nurse (RN) - License as a registered nurse in required state based upon primary base assignment - Pennsylvania Department of Health certification as a Prehospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) or Paramedic - CFRN Certification required within two (2) years of date of hire - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or its equivalent Licensure/Certifications - ACLS certification - Basic trauma life support certification - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification - CPR certification - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification - Valid and current passport - Valid and current driver's license Salary Range: 19.85 26.96 34.07 UPMC is an equal opportunity employer. ------------
