Main Function
The typical functions of Foreign Exchange Product Control can be summarized in five categories:
- Daily profit and loss reporting and balance sheet substantiation
- System reconciliation ensuring accounting sub-ledger agrees to front office systems
- PL attribution using risk, scenario and activity based approaches
- Review new trading activity
- Agreeing formal PL figures with trading desk and ensuring accurate commentary provided
- Daily ad hoc support
- Acting as a support to front office and infrastructure partners on any ad hoc issues encountered
- Valuations and reserving
- Involvement in price testing comparing internal market data to independent, external sources
- Calculation and rebalancing of appropriate valuation reserves
- Financial accounting
- Working closely with Financial Control to ensure that the general ledger and financial statements accurately reflect the financial position of the business
- Project based work including but not limited to
- Supporting business expansion (both geographical expansion and new product offerings)
- Supporting strategic infrastructure developments (specifying system requirements, involvement in testing of system migrations, etc)
- Tactical process enhancements to make recurring tasks more efficient, accurate and value add
- Development of new processes to further enhance the control environment
Main Duties
The candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the Foreign Exchange Product Control team in regards to the main functions specified above. This will primarily involve the review of the team's work and the resolution and escalation of issues.
The candidate will also be responsible for the performance management of the of the Analysts in the team and will play a critical role on a daily basis in helping each Analyst to realize their full potential.
Person Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- 3+ years experience of working in a Product Control and/or Middle Office environment
- Qualified accountant- ACA, CIMA or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Numerical degree (2.1 or above) or equivalent
- Experience with working against tight deadlines in a pressurized environment
- Proven track record of process enhancement and improvement
- Experience dealing with demanding clients
