Forensic Medical Examiner

FORENSIC MEDICAL EXAMINER - Somerset

Hays Healthcare is working with a highly respected client who are experts and market leaders in supporting leading public organisations with the provision of essential support services. This role, based in Somerset, requires a committed Forensic Physician for a permanent position.
The Forensic Physician will be responsible for assessing the needs of patients who may be detainees, civilians or police officers in a variety of settings.

Reporting to the Consultant Forensic Physician for the area, the Forensic Physician will also be responsible for overseeing and engaging in all activities occurring throughout the region. This will be during duty hours, including supervision, advice and guidance to nursing staff and junior members of the clinical team, where appropriate.

Principal Duties Responsibilities:

* To examine any person whose detention is being contemplated by the Police in order to ascertain and certify their fitness for detention / interview
* To examine, and if necessary, render medical assistance to any Police or Custody Officer injured in the course of his/her duty.
* To obtain forensic evidence from, to examine, and if necessary, tender medical assistance to victims, suspects and offenders in crime and traffic cases.
* Complex case management including detainees arrested for serious crimes or whom have complex medical or mental health problems.
* Investigation of Road Traffic Offences

Competencies required:

* The ability to communicate effectively with clients.
* A flexible and professional approach to work, being able to prioritise and manage workloads.
* Development of own skill-set to meet changing requirements.

Person Specification:

* At least three years postgraduate work experience.
* Full membership with GMC with no restrictions on practice
* UK resident for at least 36 months
* A full UK driving licence
* Competent in oral and written English
* Emergency and urgent care knowledge and experience
