Forklift Operator/Dock Lead Job in Clinton 52732, Iowa Us

The Clinton Fulfillment Center is currently seeking a temporary full-time FORKLIFT OPERATOR/DOCK LEAD. 

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Monitors the accurate movement of product within the facility, overseeing 10 to 12 Dock Workers and Walkie/Forklift Operators. Performs as the primary second shift lead maintaining all second shift functions, when volumes require need for second shift.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1.  Trains Dock Workers and Walkie/Forklift Operators on the following duties:  (15-20%)

  A. Unloading products from semi trailer onto receiving dock using forklift and/or    other material handling equipment.

  B. Opening boxes with utility knife and counting products.

  C. Transferring cases or pallets of products from the receiving dock to warehouse   storage locations.

  D. Moving products from receiving dock to appropriate location using forklift or   other material handling equipment.

  E. Operating hand-held and truck mounted RF scanning guns

  F. Conducting weekly observations and skill building for employees performing below established standards as well as rating each temporary employee based on company rating format. 

2.  Performs as a Forklift Operator/Dock Worker as needed.  (50-60%)

  C. Responsible for meeting established work performance standards

3.  Inspects forklifts and other material handling equipment for potential hazards and

reports them to the Inbound Assistant Supervisor prior to operation.

4.  Changes forklift battery as required.

  A. Unplugs and removes the battery with the low charge and places it in the battery charging racks.

  B. Plugs the battery into the proper charger ensuring that the batteries are the same voltages.

  C. Removes the charged battery for the specific forklift from the charging racks and places it in the forklift using the battery changer.

5.  Maintains accuracy of inventory by conducting random checks of pallets received

on dock, random check of pallets put away into storage as well as replenishments to

verify that the correct item is in the correct location.

6.  Works responsibly with and around various types of material handling equipment.

7.  Assigns and directs dock crew to various tasks: (25-30%)

  A. Performing forklift operations such as replenishments, dock put away, and order

picking.

  B.  Assisting with truck loading.

  C. General warehouse maintenance and housekeeping.

  D. Assisting with production tasks as volumes allow.

  E. Various dock assignments such as loading, unloading and wrapping loads.

  F. Intra-company transfers

8.  Maintains good housekeeping of work area.

9.  Performs any other duties as assigned by the Inbound Assistant Supervisor,

Assistant Manager or Facility Manager.

10. Performs all designated job duties/tasks in other departments as assigned to ensure

operating efficiency of the Company and   maximum utilization of Company personnel. 

These assignments may be part of a formalized cross-training program or on an as

needed, temporary basis.

11. Performs all assigned tasks in a safe manner according to departmental and

company policy.

12. Participates in and upholds all company safety incentives and initiatives.

 

TIME ALLOCATION:

1.      Supervises employees (25-30%)

2.          Performing duties of Forklift Operator and Dockworker.  (50-60%)

3.          Training temporary Forklift Operators and Warehouse Workers.  (15-20%)

Requirements:

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1.          Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent.

2.       Possesses one to two years of the same work experience or experience that leads to a familiarity with routines and procedures customary to the job.

3.      Able to read, write and speak English.

4.      Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

5.      Possesses knowledge of supervisory procedures and concepts.

6.      Possesses above average organizational skills.

7.      Able to work scheduled and/or unscheduled overtime.

8.          Possesses above average oral and written communication skills.

9.          Possesses strong computer skills.

 

EQUIPMENT USED/MACHINES OPERATED:

1.          Forklift   (50-60%)

2.       Hand jack.  (5-10%)

3.       Utility knife.  (5-10%)

4.       Stretch wrap dispenser.  (5-10%)

5.          General office equipment.  (

6.       Hand taper.  (

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., work at levels up to 30 feet high, use radio frequency (RF) scanning equipment, and meet expected performance standards.

Core working hours will be from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime required.  When work volumes require, this person will need to be available from Noon to 8:00 PM.   

This position is considered temporary full-time however year-round work is likely.  The hours available may fluctuate.  A person with flexibility to adjust their work schedule is ideal to ensure full-time hours.
