JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position as marine fuel buyer is based in our Jacksonville office and provides a unique opportunity to be part of an international shipping environment.  This position will initially manage a yearly spend of approximately $200 million in fuel.

Your main responsibility will be to advance the desk into a world class purchasing unit covering the entire marine and gasoil spend of Crowley Maritime Corporation.  The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of the shipping and marine fuel industries, its regulatory requirements and familiarity with worldwide shipping ports. Experience supplying marine fuel, gasoil, and lubricants and a thorough understanding of bunker operations, specifications, and regulations are desired. Your role will be responsibility for the day-to-day purchasing of gasoil for the entire vessel fleet within Crowley.  Additionally, you will be working closely with operations and our fuel broker to establish strategic programs resulting in cost savings.  Your tasks will include the following:

-       Time the market and negotiate with suppliers in order to secure the best possible deals for our  customers

-       Maintain and develop relationships with customers and suppliers

-       Minimize and resolve any operational challenges related to delivery of the gasoil

-       Handle disputes that arise as a result of short-deliveries, off-specification fuel and de-bunkerings, in cooperation with the operations department

-       Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s operating model

-       Lead negotiations of term contracts with gasoil suppliers

-       Work with operations and voyage planning to extend the lead time days to allow sufficient time to maximize market timing

 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE EDUCATION:
As the chosen candidate will be exposed to a wide range of challenges, we are looking for a well-rounded individual. Requirements include:

-       At least five years of exposure to the gasoil /marine fuels markets

-       An appetite for project management and leadership (some experience preferred)

-       Strong personal drive and a proven track record for quick learning

-       Solid sense of judgment and ability to work independently

-       Strong appetite for commercial performance and the business acumen to match it

-       First rate analytical skills

-       Excellent interpersonal skills

-       Innovative mindset

You must thrive in a constantly evolving landscape and be able to keep calm in a sometimes

hectic environment with high stakes involved.

 

Associates degree or job-related formal training after high school.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Ability to travel and work long hours. Must comply with all work rules, including those pertaining to safety and health.
