Job Description

 

The Fund Accounting team is responsible for the efficient and timely maintenance of the books and records of alternative investment fund vehicles; the generation of investor reporting; and the management of the audit process.  The team works closely with the corporate secretarial and financial reporting teams to ensure a seamless service delivery to clients.

 

The Accountant will be responsible for undertaking bookkeeping, accounting and reporting services for a portfolio of more complex alternative investment fund structures administered by the company.

 

The Accountant will undertake directed work and take responsibility for the achievement of the deadlines communicated by their Manager and the adherence to standard policy and procedures.

 

Accountants may be expected to undertake the role of mentor and coach for more junior team members.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

·         Undertaking the bookkeeping for a portfolio of more complex alternative investment fund structures and conducting full, detailed reviews of the Trial Balances prior to submission for review by a Senior Associate;

·         Processing of payments prior to submission to treasury/custodian (NB in some jurisdictions, payments may continue to be processed by an administration team);

·         Demonstrating competence with all fund accounting work and progressing with more complex cases and an increased volume of work as knowledge of the entities and accounting standards (and professional studies) increases;

·         Maintaining pro-active communication to ensure that their line manager is kept appraised of current status and to allow them to accommodate periods of absence (e.g. study leave);

·         Planning own workload and prioritising/managing time accordingly – minimum supervision required, but manager kept appraised;

·         The Accountant will act as a point of contact for the client and the auditors;

·         Working closely with counterparts on other teams (e.g. Financial Reporting) to ensure seamless and co-ordinated client service delivery;

·         Strong core technical accounting skills - confident with: complex journals for calls/distributions; calculation and reconciliation of complex fees; the preparation and review of technical accounting reports (e.g. investor capital accounts, NAV reports, distribution calculations); processing subsequent closes and equalizations;

·         Confidence in resolving client/audit queries, investigating accounting entries and building reports where necessary.  Pre-empts audit queries and ensures that issues are highlighted early and resolved expediently;

·         Maintaining files in accordance with internal policies and procedures;

·         Undertaking ad hoc requests and other specific assignments;

·         The setting of individual targets and priorities; maintaining high standards of accounting service; and giving, receiving and acting on feedback on individual performance;

·         Proactively look to develop own skills within the wider business and assisting other teams, available for secondments to other teams when work load permits;

·         Taking an active role in the Performance Planning Review process;

·         During any transitional phase from a team previously also conducting account preparation work, the Accountant may need to prepare financial statements for entities not yet assigned to a Financial Reporting team during the hand-over period;

·         In addition to the duties listed above, the Accountant may be requested to perform any other ad hoc duties or projects as requested by the fund accounting manager.

 

Your Profile

 

·         Demonstrable initiative and the ability to complete all bookkeeping work and associated files in accordance with the internal policies and procedures;

·         Attention to detail to ensure the delivery of consistent, high standards;

·         Ability to plan and organise yourself to meet challenging deadlines;

·         Good understanding of technical accounting skills;

·         A strong understanding of the transactions undertaken by entities administered by the Luxembourg Fund Accounting teams (especially in the product area relevant to your role);

·         Ability to learn quickly and work within a team under the guidance of a manager/mentor;

·         Good progression in studying for a relevant professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or equivalent);

·         Evidence of strong mathematical and analytical skills;

·         Experience in the field of alternative investment fund accounting and/or other financial services industry experience would be essential.
