Fund Accountant, Senior Associate recruitment

Daily NAV production
Fund Accountants are responsible for the production of accurate valuations and associated deliverables to meet client and publication deadlines.

Report and Accounts
To prepare all components of interim and final accounts and associated monthly reconciliation, account packs and Board papers for Investment Trust Companies.

Specific Duties:

Daily NAV Production

• Daily NAV production and review of a number of Investment Trust Company funds using State Street in house systems and Excel.
• Daily input and validation of all purchases, sales, corporate actions and dividends. 
• Preparation and review of cash and stock reconciliations, also reconciliations of expenses, interest, dividends and withholding tax.
• Preparation of yield calculations. 
• Responding to queries from custodians and clients.
• To ensure that all events (trades, income, expenses, etc) are updated within the ledger and validated.
• To research breached tolerances and provide adequate explanations and backup where appropriate
• Responsibility to raise to a senior any tolerances that has been breached where no explanation can be found
• Assist the Team Leader to allocate tasks/activities to team members
• Perform quality and internal control checks in respect of all team deliverables.
• Identify and implement process and product improvements, documenting where necessary.
• Work with the Team Leader to prepare appropriate contingency plans for work of the team and be aware of team’s role in the CFS Business Continuity Plan.
• Ensure adherence to all departmental and company wide procedural guidelines (e.g. timekeeping, dress, and holiday cover)
• Maintain up to date procedures and client deliverable details.
• Undertake, where necessary, the tasks of an Administrator.

Report and Accounts

• Production and control of Interim and Annual Accounts process to ensure accurate completion in accordance with timetable.
• Prepare accounts in SORP and applicable accounting standards format with supporting schedules.
• Review monthly reconciliations packs with supporting schedules.
• Ensure review points received are resolved in the correct manner.
• Proof read accounts for arithmetical and type setting accuracy and consistency.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly Board packs prior to distribution to client.
• Review and prepare corporation tax and income tax computations for insertion in the accounts and submission to Inland Revenue.  Ensure quarterly tax reviews are undertaken by the Tax Team to ensure reasonableness of taxation accrual.
• Provision of liaison point with auditors, trustees and clients and be able to explain figures prepared to third parties.
• Involvement in departmental ad-hoc projects.
• Involvement in day to day planning of accounts team workload. 

Communication

Report and Accounts

• Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, third parties and colleagues, communicating effectively through formalised reporting and ad hoc liaison. 
• Ensure effective logging and resolution of enquiries and liaise with appropriate parties to resolve/ escalate queries / problems within agreed timescales.
• Ensure the line manager and others, as appropriate, are kept aware of all issues/problems/queries/work in progress that may impact upon the quality of service being given.
• Resolve review points highlighted by Team Leader and ensure they are kept informed of progress.
• Provision of liaison point with auditors, trustees and clients and be able to explain figures prepared to third parties.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues.

• Communicating effectively with colleagues through formalised reporting and liaison on ad hoc matters
• Ensure effective logging and resolution of enquiries and liaise with appropriate parties to resolve/ escalate queries / problems within agreed timescales.
• Ensure the line manager and others, as appropriate, are kept aware of all issues/problems/queries/work in progress that may impact upon the quality of service being given.

Administration
• Undertake appropriate housekeeping duties e.g. filing and operation of clean desk policy.

Training and Personal Development

• Take responsibility for personal development and training.
• Work with the Line Manager to identify objectives at the start of each year and keep them up to date.
• Actively participate in the appraisal process by completing a self-evaluation and suggesting appropriate development.

Other

• Involvement in departmental ad-hoc projects.
• Involvement in the training and development of other team members as necessary.
• Make recommendations for changes to processes and procedures and prepare documentation for review as required.
 
                 
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Specific Qualifications / Skills:

• Numeracy / Literacy skills
• PC literate and competent in use of spreadsheets and word processing
• Understanding of fund administration.

Level of Education:

• Accountancy or Business degree, or equivalent is preferred
• Obtained or studying towards obtaining a professional accountancy qualification would be useful but not essential.
• Studying towards IAQs

Previous Level of Experience:

• Previous experience of daily NAV production and/or accounting for Investment Trusts would be desirable but not essential
