Funds Lawyer – Cape Town recruitment

Qualified lawyer with strong knowledge of English Law and significant practical work experience gained from the fund management industry, which must include knowledge of UCITs sought by this dynamic global asset management house.

The role is located at the firm’s South African Head Office and key remit will be to act as subject matter expert with regard to regulatory and compliance UCITs funds.  This will involve implementing the practical application of UCITs rules, to include drafting of prospectus, addendums and other commercial agreements and implementing all changes arising out of UCITS IV.  The role carries responsibility for the review of all corporate marketing and promotional literature and undertaking general legal duties to include drafting and evaluation of contracts and agreements, the supervision of AML and company secretarial functions and the evaluation and mitigation of contractual and legal risk.  Additionally the successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating distribution agreements for the firm’s mutual fund range with the firm’s global distribution network.

Applicants will be commercially minded with a strong legal background and experience gained from either a law firm or from the Luxembourg fund industry, specifically UCITs funds.  The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with the ability to build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders throughout the business and externally.  Excellent research capability and problem solving skills are essential and will be complemented by a high level of intellectual curiosity and genuine passion for investments.
