Funds Management Tax Manager recruitment
The Funds Management Tax Manager will report directly to the Head of Tax Services, and will be responsible for managing a specialist team of up to 8 individuals. On a day to day basis, they will be the first point of contact for a number of unit trust and superannuation clients and will provide technical input to projects within the Tax Services team. He/she will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of tax reporting and calculation services to the Client in accordance with service level agreements.
Responsibilities
- Act as the principal point of contact for a group of allocated clients and to participate in client service level reviews and other ad-hoc meetings.
- Ensure that allocated client tax profiles are managed and agreed with all the relevant stakeholders (including clients and fund administration).
- Ensure that deliverables to clients are delivered accurately and on time in accordance with agreed Service level agreements.
- Ensure that client queries are resolved in a timely manner
- Provide operational tax advice as required in relation to specific tax changes or corporate action events in the market.
- Perform testing of tax templates and processes to ensure compliance with current tax legislation and internal tax reporting policies.
- Provide transitions support towards the setup of new tax reporting portfolios or restructures as per client instructions.
- Perform formal supervision and controlled self assessment testing of tax procedures and deliverables with our agreed risk management framework.
- Participate and actively drive initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operational tax risk within the business.
- Provide training and development to staff within the team and be able to manage their expectations and development over time.
Requirements
- The successful candidate will have completed a Master of Taxation (or equivalent) and has had at least 5-8 years Australian tax experience within the financial services industry.
- It is expected that the individual would have extensive tax compliance experience in dealing with unit trusts (distribution reviews and tax returns) and is well abreast with developments in this area including the impact of TOFA (taxation of financial arrangements).
- As the role involves managing a team of operational and technical tax professionals, it is envisaged that the individual would have a proven track record in managing individuals/stakeholders and developing them over time
- Able to investigate and resolve technical tax issues impacting our tax deliverable to clients and be able to operationalise that solution.
- Solid understanding of the accounting and taxable income reconciliation process and the tax treatment of financial products and instruments.
- Good communication skills and able to summarise complex tax issues to the wider audience.
- Demonstrated people management and time management skills.
