General Counsel: Investment Funds South East Asia.
Global Fund Management company, with presence across 30 jurisdictions and with strong capabilities in both traditional and alternative funds such as hedge funds, private equity and Fund of Private Equity Funds seeks to hire a Legal Counsel responsible for the establishment of their South East Asia franchise from Singapore. With ambitious growth plans for this year, my client already anticipates growth in Asia and so this person should be business savvy, entrepreneurial and open to challenges.
The essence of this role is to act as an advisor and interface between the Investment teams and the legal side. Although you will have to roll your sleeves up and get things done from the day to day legal functions you should also be someone that can keep an eye on the bigger picture especially as the company has plans to grow aggressively in SE Asia this year. The role is expected to develop in to a full regional role over time and this person will be involved in high level negotiations and lobbying efforts with regulators as the company expands its distribution capabilities in markets such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and India etc. The ideal candidate would have strong experience in traditional UCITS, authorisation and registration of funds and private equity funds however it is more important to have the experience and technical understanding of traditional retail funds. This role would act as a springboard or stepping stone for someone wishing get more exposure to business side. It will also offer more responsibilities and challenges in terms of exposure to different products and business areas on an international platform and a defined career path.
