The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking a general ledger accountant responsible for ensuring that all line of business system transactions are properly interfaced into the general ledger and for executing accounts payable processes and procedures in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia and internal regulations.  Responsibilities include the accuracy of the VRS Fixed Assets Accounting and Control System (FAACS), ensuring agency expenditures are properly recorded in the accounting records of VRS and the Commonwealth and participating in accounts payable ( A/P) or general accounting special projects as requested.  This position communicates with customers and vendors to resolve any issues.   

 

Qualifications include knowledge of accounting principles, experience in multiple accounting processes and working with automated financial/accounting systems and procedures; knowledge of large databases and PC and Web based applications; must be skilled in reviewing and verifying the accuracy of data and in reconciling accounting transactions; skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.  AP experience is desired.  The candidate must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.   Associate's degree or bachelor’s degree in accounting or business is highly preferred.    

 

Hiring Range:  $31,127 - $34,500

Salary Range:  $31,127 - $54,784
