General Maintenance Technician II Job in Groton, Connecticut US

Requirements/Expectations:
* Education: High school graduate or demonstrated equivalent.
* Experience: 3+ years of experience in General Maintenance or 2+ years in trade school training.
* Familiar with computers
* Conducts preventative maintenance, inspections and performs required preventative maintenance actions, such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc.
* Utilizes a wide variety of hand and portable power tools.
* Attention to detail and excellent follow up skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Friendly, cooperative, customer service-minded attitude; team player.
* Ability to read and understand repair manuals and drawings.
* Ability to analyze problems, recommends solutions, and initiates repairs.
* Experience working with and nderstanding work instructions.
* Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

Physical Requirements:
* Requires lifting up to 50 pounds and meeting the physical demands inherent to facilities maintenance.
* Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.
* Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access databases, send/receive email messages, and to prepare documents.
* Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.
* Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other URS, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.
* Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movements.

Special Requirements:
* Coping with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained

Preferred Requirements:
* Experience working in a Computerized Maintenance Management environment preferred
* Experience working in a large research and development facility

Job Description:
URS has a General Maintenance Technician II position available at our client facility in Groton, Connecticut!

Position Description:
The position is to preserve and enhance the appearance of the facility. Such duties may include but not limited to replacing lamps and ballasts, painting, general carpentry, drywall repair, minor plumbing, hanging pictures, carpet repairs, office moves, door hardware, ceiling tiles, etc.

Essential Functions:
* Performs general maintenance and repair duties on a variety of facility systems
* Under general supervision, performs tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity.
* Reviews service requests for repairs and maintenance, determines nature of problem, and executes appropriate solution.
* Coordinates work with outside contractors.
* Ensures all appropriate building standards are maintained at a high level of quality.
* Operates hand and power tools and mechanical equipment effectively and safely complies with safety requirements including use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
* May assist higher level technicians in completing work assignments
* Seeks assistance from higher level technicians and supervisor/management when necessary in order to complete work with highest level of customer satisfaction
* Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
* Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
* Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
* Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.
* Flexible in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
* Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
* Other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor
