General Manager, Strategy
Institutional Banking Markets (IBM) is responsible for the provision of products and services to nearly 3000 major corporate, institutional and government clients. This is achieved through origination, structuring and execution of on and off balance sheet products that are enhanced through the efficient application of taxation, accounting, risk and capital management technologies.
The Strategy and Operations team supports IBM's strategic priorities and encompasses three distinct business units: International Operations (leadership of our offshore operations in the Americas, Europe, Malta and New Zealand, and also execution the offshore growth strategy in these geographies and Asia); Strategy (leading the development of 3-5 year business strategies for the IBM division and individual lines of business plus provision of tactical and strategic business intelligence); and Business Support (PMO, Productivity, Projects, and Business Communications and Events).
Role Purpose:
This key leadership role is responsible for leading the development of global IBM and line of business strategies in the context of the overall Group strategic direction and for providing guidance and support to the IBM LT and leadership to the Strategy team.
Key Accountabilities:
- Work with clients and stakeholders to develop and implement the overall strategic framework, including the annual Group-wide strategic planning process
- Build strong collaborative working relationships with key business partners, using effective and influential working relationships and adapting style to meet different stakeholder needs. Influencing senior leaders is a key aspect of this role
- Lead a team to perform research, interviews and financial modeling to develop and support hypotheses and recommendations. Frame business issues using structured problem solving techniques and commercial acumen to drive development of solutions
- Advocate for and communicate recommendations in a compelling and structured manner to act as a solid foundation for influencing executive decision making
- Contribute to business profitability through an understanding of industry, market and competitor trends and recommend strategies to respond to or address those trends, including proactive identification of growth opportunities
- Ensure that the team effectively maintains the required Risk, Audit Compliance standards including meeting the risk profile aligned to IBM and the Group's RAS
- Remain abreast of relevant regulations, industry and market changes.
- Help build and support a progressive culture within the team and contribute to a working environment that is professionally successful and enjoyable.
- Act as a role model by consistently displaying leadership behaviour that encourages productive working relationships and a strong performance culture

Qualifications and Experience Required:
Essential
- Strong understanding of banking and/or financial services, with focus on Institutional Banking
- Demonstrated track record of applying strategic problem solving methods and approaches employed in management consulting
- Extensive experience in a Strategy role
- Experience in setting and driving strategic priorities, building credibility with clients, and evidence of success in driving businesses forward within a large global organisation
- Exceptional strategic thinking skills and business acumen
- Demonstrable stakeholder management experience across multiple business and support areas
- Experience in engaging at business unit leadership team, Executive Committee and Board level
- Demonstrated and strong analytical skills
Desirable
- International institutional / investment banking and capital markets experience
- Postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MBA, Masters of Finance)
- Experience in a management role within a strategy team
