Genetic Counselor

While providing genetic counseling and education for patients and families at high risk for developing cancer, the dedicated Genetic Counselor we seek will document patient encounters and test results in medical records.  You will participate in community outreach efforts to educate the public on genetic aspects of cancer, promote cancer prevention and risk reduction strategies, and collaborate with referring physicians and other members of the care team to facilitate the testing process.  In addition, you will be responsible for communicating results, and participating in, and supporting research studies involving cancer risk assessment services.

 

The qualified candidate must possess a Master’s Degree in genetic counseling and board-certification (BC) or have board-eligibility (BE) designation by the ABMG and/or ABGC.  You must have knowledge of research methodology, computer applications, and demonstrated ability in clinical and genetic counseling practice, patient and clinical staff teaching, and training in cancer genetics, risk assessment, and counseling.   This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with physicians, patients, and family members about the risks for developing of cancer, and probability that the patient carries specific genetic mutation. You must be able to organize and prioritize multiple and complex system, issues, and workload. Prior cancer or other genetic counseling experience is preferred.
