Under the direction and leadership of the Geotechnical Team Leader and the guidance of the Geotechnical Engineers, the Geotechnical Technician will provide daily technical support to EKATI's mining operations to enhance the safety of mining operations. This position is mainly responsible to perform the daily inspection of the underground workings to assess the adequacy of ground support designs for actual conditions, and monitoring of the mining activities with regards to geotechnical compliance issues
.
As the successful candidate you will:
- Play a critical role in ensuring safe mining by inspecting ground conditions and ground support systems.
- Fill a key role in the collection of consistent high quality geotechnical data through geotechnical instrumentation and structural mapping.
- Conduct rock bolt pull testing, audit ground support installation and sample shotcrete, as part of the QA/QC program.
- Develop ground control drawings and rehabilitation plans according to the Ground Control Standard.
- Provide Mining and Geotechnical Engineers with the required geotechnical data to allow them to develop optimal mine plans.
- Participate in the development and implementation of effective and comprehensive policies and procedures related to ground control.
As the successful candidate you will have:
- A University Degree or a College diploma in the field of Geotechnical/Mining Engineering or Geology.
- Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience in mining environment.
- The ability to register with a professional geoscience society (i.e NAPEG, ASET).
- Experience with major mining software and demonstrated proficiency of general office productivity software.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, mining operations and the diamond industry.
- A valid driver's license.
The EKATI Diamond Mine is located 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife and is accessible only by plane. The hours of employment are 12 hours per day, 2 weeks on site, followed by 2 weeks off.
