Glabal Cost Analyst

The Global Cost Management and Analysis (CMA) team are committed to the analysis and reporting of Nomura Group’s Global expense base. A Contractor position has arisen to support the Head of Global Cost Analytics (GCA).
The main responsibility of the team is to provide insight and analysis into the Nomura cost base through MIS, to aid senior Finance / Nomura management with decision making and as a tool to manage and control a global expense base in excess of $8bn.
GCA are also responsible for helping drive cost efficiency, achieve consistent treatment and encourage and monitor cost reduction through the organisation, by working closely with regional Finance and Business counterparts around the globe.
Role description:
- Consolidate and analyse the Nomura Group’s expense base globally, and to produce the monthly cost analysis pack for the Wholesale Executive Committee (WEC) and the Executive Management Board (EMB)
- Co-ordinate, comment on and present the monthly expense rolling forecast
- Challenge business and regional stakeholders where appropriate
- Facilitate, monitor and report on the monthly Cost Management Process whereby businesses and regions are held accountable for variance to budget and their commitments to current cost saves programmes
- Manage tracking against Global cost initiatives programmes including saves submission, validation and reporting
- Timely completion of ad hoc requests primarily for Senior Finance management that may involve any aspect of the Nomura Group cost base (e.g. actual, flash, forecast, budget, cost saves progress)
- Oversee and provide support to offshore team in Powai to ensure accurate and timely delivery of BAU reporting
- Migrate production of core processes and reporting to offshore hub within 6-9 months
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
The candidate should have a keen interest in finance and understand how operational efficiency can play a major part in the cost base of the bank. The candidate should be a creative thinker and proactive problem solver who can independently conduct analysis and develop strategies. Moreover, the candidate should be a fast thinker/quick learner and possess the ability to work effectively under pressure, in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines.
Specific key requirements include:
- Strong academics to degree level
- Qualified accountant (CIMA / ACA / ACCA)
- High level cost consolidation and analysis experience beneficial
- Need to have excellent communication / presentation skills – particularly using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Accustomed to dealing with senior stakeholders
- Used to ad hoc work turned around at short notice
- A key requirement is experience of MIS design, preparation and presentation
- Previous exposure to management reporting, preferably in a Finance / Operations / Business Analysis related role essential
- Team Player with strong communication skills with proven ability to deal with Senior Management and personnel located remotely
- Excellent attention to detail with an ability to manage multiple tasks and strong problem solving skills
- Experience of offshoring processes or reports would be beneficial
- Experience of Investment banking would be advantageous but not necessary
- Experience of creating, monitoring or reporting on cost save programmes advantageous
- Experience in Hyperion/Essbase would be advantageous
