Position Description
Role:
Sector Researcher covering Technology
Reports to:
Sector Head of TMT
Research (Sector Knowledge Performing Research)
• Provide value-added (Tier 3) market research of companies, industries and markets to Morgan Stanley businesses in support of strategic decisions.
• Possess strong knowledge and understanding of sectors and associated resources.
• Manage complex research projects through the delegation of non-core and non-sensitive transactional tasks (Tiers 1 2) to alternative resources.
• Participate in GBIS and CIM strategic task forces and communicate objectives to the team.
• Carry out General Research requests and cover for other industries as required.
• Support the Sector Head in the operational management of the team.
• Ensure the global team consistently deliver high quality research.
• Provide cover for Media and Comms sectors as required.
Content Management (Knowledge Management of Sector Resources)
• Participate in the development and implementation of information strategies through the management, deployment and use of key resources and related initiatives.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of TMT SharePoint and KnowledgeWeb portals.
• Maintain relationships with key product vendors, keeping abreast of product developments, competitor activities, maintaining a formal list of all resources relevant to the Sector including contacts, pricing and cross-business unit ownership.
Client Relationship Management
• Build and maintain client relationships with client BU Operations Officers, Assignments Associates, and Senior Management.
• Proactively monitor client's the Firm's business activities to understand and anticipate client information requirements.
• Work with Sector Head to publish quarterly BU Spend and Product Strategy Reports.
• Attend client team meetings - keep abreast of developments within the client community and contribute expertise where applicable.
• Retain a heightened awareness of compliance client confidentiality obligations.
• Provide advice to business units on the cost of information in order to assist in managing their spend on research.
Skills Required
• Minimum degree level educated or equivalent.
• Relevant experience in a research role covering Technology.
• Strong client-focused interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with regional and global partners/alliances to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
• Effective organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deliverables under pressure and deadlines.
• Knowledge of business information sources, financial services industry and copyright issues.
• Initiative - proven record of delivering results beyond expectations.
• Strong IT skills including MS Office, New technology IT skill an advantage (web 2.0 etc).
• Flexible approach to duties and hours of work.
