Global Head of DBA – Finance recruitment

The Global Head of DBA is a key member of the database architecture board and is responsible for approving all new implementations into the firms database estate.

Tasks:
• Develop and maintain a global database technology and governance strategy
• Develop a roadmap to deliver to the global database strategy
• Develop database and operational support standards
• Transform the regional database teams into a global organisation to follow common design and operational  standards and procedures
• Maintain and improve on production support service levels
• Reducing costs and improving support efficiencies
• Lead database architecture decisions
• Manage the programme of database development work
• Manage global database programmes and initiatives
• Monitor resourcing requirements in the 3 regions and distribute work accordingly
• Provision of recommendations and regular reports to the Global ITExco
• Evaluate alternative database technologies and tools
• Keep up to date with new developments in database technologies
• Interface with global heads of infrastructure and application teams to optimise database performance and maximise IT cost reductions
• Interface with PMO to ensure project managers adhere to database standards

Responsibilities:
• Leadership role over 3 regional database teams providing production support and project implementations for over Lead a team providing support for 200+ production databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase)
• Ensuring the provision of continuous 24/7 database support through the use of a follow the sun support model and on-call support
• Ensuring the database inventory is maintained
• Regularly review processes for patching and upgrade schedules, capacity management activities, performance monitoring and tuning
• Approval responsibility for all database designs
• Acceptance sign off of new databases into production support
• Licence optimisation and renewals
• Vendor relationship management and performance monitoring
• Database budgetary responsibilities
• Team management performance appraisal responsibilities
• Define KPIs and measure performance of DBA team members

SUPERVISION DUTIES:

• Line manager of the 3 Regional Heads of DBA

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

Skills:
• Strong leader with the ability to lead global teams
• Strategic thinking
• Reporting of key metrics
• Database infrastructure design
• Database design
• Oracle and SQL Server database administration
• Vendor management and negotiating skills
• Ability to present clearly and concisely and to influence senior management (ITExco level)
• Organisational transformation methodologies
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken

Experience:
• Must have held a previous global DBA management position
• Must have experience of hands on database administration
• Significant IT experience in the Finance industry
• Experience of database design
• Must have held a lead database architect position
• Proven track record of organisational transformation
• Highly structured ITIL compliant support
