POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Global Head of Finance, Index Business Unit will be responsible for the overall finance leadership of more than 50% of MSCI’s global revenue. This will require the incumbent to provide executive leadership for all finance work globally for the Index business.
The Global Head of Finance, Index will be responsible for managing the financial planning and analysis side of the PL, and will work closely with the business to provide financial insight and strategic analysis. He/she will be heavily involved in high level strategy and insights, and business analysis.
Critical to the success of the role is the need to build strong relationships across the business and, with external stakeholders, ensure the finance function is deeply embedded in both the day-to-day and longer term strategic initiatives of the business.
Growth ambitions for the business are significant and the Global Head of Finance, Index will play a critical role in partnering with the leadership of MSCI Index to take the business to the next level. He/she will effectively act as the right hand and business partner to the Global Head of the Index as we grow the business. The role will be located in London and require international travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strong business partner to the Global Head of the Index business unit, and able to contribute on commercial and strategic issues;
- Able to generate insights (as opposed to information) that continuously drive business profitability, understanding the key levers of value creation in the organization;
- Ability to handle a wide range of complex issues and multiple projects simultaneously, working with demanding deadlines and minimal supervision;
- Active involvement in the pricing, negotiation and management of commercial aspects of large customer contracts;
- Form a close knit working relationship with the senior leadership team, providing constructive challenge when appropriate;
- Play a key role in the leadership team for MSCI Index;
- Lead, mentor and develop a small finance team (3-4 direct reports).
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s in Finance/Accounting or MBA;
- ACA, CPA or CMA helpful;
- Strong FPA track record;
- Proven experience in a regional Head of Finance or FPA roles including experience in planning, analysis and reporting financial transactions;
- 10-15 years with a large reputable organization, ideally in financial services, business information, or software;
- Must understand the dynamics of financial markets;
- Background in customer- focused businesses as well as experience pricing, negotiating and managing contracts;
- Proven experience heading finance for a business of similar scale;
- Leadership skills;
- Must have the intellectual capacity to jump from highly complex and detailed discussions to big picture strategic debates;
- Able to “join the dots” across the business and provide a coherent approach, prioritizing effectively;
- Strong operational and commercial experience ;
- Gravitas and credibility to build relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders;
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to operate effectively within a constantly changing environment;
- A confident communicator with strong influence skills;
- “Can do” attitude, with proven ability to deliver results and manage change effectively.
