Full time analyst and internship opportunities ~ European Global Markets Research
We are looking for outstanding analysts to join our team on a number of different desks within research as we continue to expand our team within to Nomura’s integrated Global Markets (equity and fixed income) business.
Candidates will have a dedicated role working within the team to achieve collective goals. We are looking for analysts who can grow and mature to become associates, who will quickly become client facing and add real value to both the research team and broader business – people who will drive our research agenda and become thought leaders in the firm.
Positions available
- Full time entry level analyst or senior analyst positions – allocated to a specific desk
- Three month internships – flexible to start in early 2014 (January, April or June), allocated to a specific desk with an opportunity to work on a large project and make a significant contribution to the business.
- Summer internships – either two five week rotations in research or one in research and one elsewhere in the Global Market’s business. In research you will work on a small but value-added project.
At the end of the three month or summer placements there is the possibility for outstanding interns to receive full time offers to start in summer 2014 or summer 2015 respectively.
About the team
Nomura’s European Global Markets Research team has cross-market coverage encompassing equity market strategy, equity company coverage, economics, rates, credit, currencies, inflation, emerging markets, ABS and quantitative strategies providing clients with everything from short punchy trade ideas to in-depth research on thematic topics.

The European Global Markets Research team are responsible for revenue generation for the firm by working with clients, providing insights and actionable ideas in order to generate client business, as well as working with traders internally to manage risk exposures and undertake proprietary trading strategies.

Key tasks
- Analysis including model building and forecasting
- Constructing analytical products and research publications for clients
- Project work ranging from immediate time sensitive issues to longer term projects requiring direct interaction with both external and internal clients
- Advising internal risk takers and in time external clients
Skills and qualifications
No specific research or strategy related experience is required, instead we look for analysts with well developed raw smarts. The ideal candidate should have a very strong quantitative background, which could include a degree in economics, finance, maths, sciences, engineering or similar.
Specifically, we are looking for someone who has:
- Strong quantitative skills, analytical skills and a multifaceted, forward thinking, and entrepreneurial perspective
- Confident and outgoing attitude with the ability to build relationships internally and externally
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills, the ability to demystify complex concepts and market trends for colleagues and clients alike is essential
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, as well as attention to detail
- Econometric or applied statistical skills are of particular interest.
- Coding skills are necessary only for quantitative strategies desk
- Applicants for full time positions who have previously done sandwich or yearlong placements in a research setting are strongly encouraged to apply
