Role Description
Department / Team:
GVG (Global Valuations Group) is a centralized function within Finance responsible for the independent valuation of trading positions for the Global Markets / Global Banking businesses. There are teams based in London, New York and Asia. GVG comprises Rates, Credit, Equities, Emerging Markets, Methodology and Reporting.
The GVG US Credit Trading team covers cash and synthetic products in Investment Grade, High Yield, Distressed Debt and Loan Trading. The team in New York is currently comprised of 2 valuation specialists with support offshore.
Role Profile Description
Key responsibilities and Deliverables:
• Execute Daily Independent Price Verification (IPV) of Investment Grade, High Yield and Distressed Products consisting of Cash Bonds, Single Name CDS and Credit Indices.
• Review initial results from offshore, and work with the offshore team to ensure valid IPV results on a daily basis.
• Challenge front office on valuation differences
• Collaborate with Finance Managers and the Analytics group to provide value added analysis for the business
• Dispute market data pricing from external sources and work with providers to ensure correct pricing
• Interact with CFO functions, Front Office, and Risk Management to discuss the results of the month end processes.
• Report IPV variances in central databases and summarize results in a monthly memo
• Improve efficiency by challenging processes and procedures
• Document agreed upon methodologies and present them to senior management, auditors and regulators
• Team up with Change The Bank (CTB) to improve and automate daily IPV processes
Key competencies:
- Strong understanding of corporate credit, including bond math and CDS trades.
- Excellent analytical skills to support a valuation judgment
- Highly motivated in improving existing processes
- Confidence in engaging with traders on valuation control results and methodology
- Ability to communicate clearly the drivers behind risk and valuation trends. Excellent presentation skills
Technology skills needed for the role
- Strong mathematical skills analytical skills
- Excellent knowledge of Excel (i.e. VBA, pivots, macros, etc) and PowerPoint
- Experience in using market data providers (Bloomberg especially)

- Attention to details, organized
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines
- Strong team player while take responsibility for own work
- Interest in increasing product knowledge
- Ability to liaise and communicate clearly within Finance and with the Business
