Graduate Development Program (GDP) Job

Graduate Development Program (GDP)

Cobham is seeking graduating students with a Bachelors or Masters Degree in an Engineering or Business discipline to join our Graduate Development Program (GDP).  This position location can be at any Cobham location.  Will be relocated within the program to different Cobham locations.

The Graduate Development Program within Cobham is a structured, closely monitored, 2-3 year rotational program designed to produce the Group's Future Business Leaders and Mission Critical Workforce (MCW). To this end the program involves a series of rotations in various business disciplines, each lasting between 3 and 9 months. Your individual career path is monitored by the program and reviewed regularly; with placements selected to support your development needs and career aspirations while satisfying business requirements. Whether you are on the Leadership or Mission Critical Workforce path will impact upon the disciplines chosen for your placements.

The rotational format allows you to acquire and apply an excellent overall perspective of the Cobham Group, its products and its markets - knowledge essential to our future Business Leaders and MCW. Specialization at this stage carries the risk of forcing you into a rut and would limit your appreciation and understanding of wider business issues. Our Group requires development project leaders who automatically factor in commercial realities; deal-makers who understand what a contract will demand of the design team. The GDP aims to make this kind of holistic thinking second nature.

The placements: these may be in any of Cobham's three divisions: Cobham Mission Systems, Cobham Aerospace and Security, or Cobham Defense Systems. As a minimum you will be expected to rotate between disciplines / departments during the program. Inter-company movement is strongly encouraged and where appropriate we promote and support cross-divisional placements increasing exposure to the Group and technologies. During the course of the program you may well be asked to travel and certain placements may include time overseas. At the end of each placement you will be asked to give a formal presentation to key business stakeholders reviewing your achievements and giving you fantastic exposure to senior members of the Company

What happens afterwards? The exact duration of the GDP is not set in stone - we expect you to have completed at least 4 assignments in different business disciplines before taking on your permanent position within the Group. So no, we can't possibly predict where you will finally belong; but when you do slot into your primary specialization, it will involve working alongside and learning from the best there are - always secure in the knowledge that in a Group as diverse as ours you will never be short of an opportunity.

Requirements To join our program you will need a Bachelors or Masters degree ideally in an Engineering or Business discipline with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Selected candidates may be required to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance and may be subject to and must comply with all applicable U.S. export control and security regulations which require U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S residency

If this applies to you then congratulations; you may now apply for probably the most exciting, challenging and individualistic program of its kind.

Graduates from any degree discipline requiring the accurate analysis and manipulation of large scale quantitative data are of interest to us: besides the obvious - such as Economics, Business, Finance and Mathematics - this could readily be seen to include subjects such as geography and the physical sciences.

If your degree is in an apparently unaffiliated subject but you are attracted to a career in engineering or business, do not be deterred. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate the required levels of numerical, verbal and analytical skill, concentration on detail, tireless accuracy and have the motivation and drive to develop their careers in an international environment.

Outstanding placement students may be offered sponsorship for their degree (or remainder of their degree) with the view to joining the Graduate Program upon completion.

Unless otherwise stated in the requirements section of an individual job listing, our positions require U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency, or other status as a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR - 8 USC 1324b(a)(3).
