Graduate Development Programme Job in Newport, Wales UK

Wales West Utilities is looking to recruit a number of graduate engineers to join its graduate development programme from August 2012. The company has a wide-ranging programme which focuses on the achievement of Chartered status via a series of engineering placements and a comprehensive graduate support network and has been accredited by both the Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

Graduates on our programme will benefit from our structured approach to development which incorporates a full induction, formal training courses, mentoring and regular performance reviews.

We offer a competitive package which includes:

We are looking for graduates who have achieved (or expect to achieve) a bachelors or masters degree class of 2:1 or higher, in a degree course which is accredited by IMechE, IET or IGEM (please see the institutes’ websites for further information).

Our graduates will be individuals who are self starting, focussed on performance and committed to achieving Chartered status via their development programme.

Our selection process is in 3 phases – candidates should submit a CV as outlined in our application pack by the closing date.  Successful applicants will then be invited to complete online numerical and verbal tests.  If successful following the testing stage, successful applicants will be invited to attend an assessment centre which will take place over 2 days in the Newport area. Further details regarding the assessment centre will be sent to successful candidates in advance.

Company Information – An Overview

Wales West Utilities is a regulated gas distribution business with around 34,000 km of gas distribution pipelines located in Wales and the South West of England. Covering 1/6th of the UK, WWU serves a catchment area with a population of 7.4 million. Our Head Office is in Newport, South Wales.

Our primary role - undertaken on behalf of gas suppliers - is to transport gas to the gas meters of homes and businesses - from the Northern Welsh border to Cornwall.

WWU does not sell gas but instead ensures that it is piped in a safe and efficient way. The company is also responsible for dealing with gas escapes, laying new gas pipes and replacing and moving pipes and meters. We operate the gas emergency service throughout our catchment area.
