Graduate Legal Assistant recruitment
The teams support a wide variety of business lines and internal areas of activity in SGLB, including corporate and structured debt finance, coverage, finance-linked hedging, commodity finance and trading, mergers and acquisitions, equity capital markets, principal investments, sourcing, regulatory and company secretarial issues. The teams are looking for a graduate legal assistants to support them in their day to day activities and internal projects, and to contribute to the development of internal know-how materials and communications.
Main responsibilities
- Review and preparation of confidentiality agreements, reliance/non-reliance letters and related documentation to be entered into by SG (as recipient or provider of information)
- Review and preparation of board minutes for SG group companies in the UK entering into transactions as part of SG's corporate investment banking activity
- Legal research
- Updating and maintenance of existing internal precedents
- Preparation of bulletins and other internal communications to keep internal clients up to date with legal developments
- Preparation of powers of attorney and liaison with notaries as necessary
- Arranging execution of corporate documents (including delegations by power of attorney)
- Assistance with internal projects and systems
- Other transactional and administrative support as required e.g. checking conditions precedent and post-closing matters
The graduate legal assistant will report formally to the Deputy Head of the Legal Department in London. Day to day reporting in respect of any particular matter will be to the person for whom the assistant is working.
Works under supervision/direction from the relevant lawyer. Direct contact with internal clients (business lines) and other support functions (compliance, tax etc)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education
- University graduate
- Demonstrable interest in and aptitude for an English legal career (e.g. completion of GDL or LPC or other professional equivalents)
Skills/Languages
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Willingness to learn relevant SG internal systems
- Fluent oral and written English
- Articulate, good written and oral communication skills, friendly and approachable
