Glencore UK Ltd is offering up to 6 graduate vacancies in its London office in 2014 as part of the Trainee Trader Scheme. The successful applicants will undertake a structured training programme to enhance their learning and understanding of our integrated business model, including roles in the areas of operations and risk management. These are hands-on roles and are critical stages in the development of a successful trader. Our intention is for graduates to eventually become front line traders should they show suitable aptitude.
Our approach necessitates a long-term and thorough learning discipline. We encourage movement between teams and seek candidates who are proactive and will flourish in a highly successful environment that lacks rigidity; our graduate opportunities are reflective of this culture.
Operations Rotation
Our operators work alongside our traders from the inception of each trade and are responsible for the complete management of logistical and financial elements of each contract. This involves checking contracts, ensuring relevant financial documentation is in place, issuing instructions to our suppliers, voyage/discharge instructions and scheduling liftings and deliveries. As you monitor the progress of each voyage it will be necessary to work closely with the trading team, finance and chartering in order to maximise the commercial value of each transaction.
Risk Management Rotation
Our risk managers work closely with our traders and operators learning skills from our highly experienced and knowledgeable staff. Risk management involves maintaining physical and derivative trades in our reporting systems, assessing the accuracy and validity of mark-to-market, reporting positions and profit and loss, providing analysis where necessary and monitoring pricing exposure, ensuring that hedging is executed in line with our trading teams’ requirements. Accuracy, confidence and exceptional analytical skills are key attributes in this area of our business.
Minimum Requirements
To apply for a graduate position at Glencore you must meet the following initial selection criteria:
- a minimum of 340 UCAS points or equivalent based on your top 3 grades;
- GCSE Maths and English Language at a minimum of grade B;
- fluency in English.
Looking beyond academic success, demonstration of exceptional achievement in a commercial environment will also be viewed positively.
